Costello sticking with football

Dublin dual star Cormac Costello will continue to concentrate on football next year.

A former star minor in both codes, Costello decided to commit himself to Jim Gavin's squad this year and will be on board with the footballers again in 2015.

"Unfortunately I don't think it's sustainable to do the two of them at a high level, to be honest. It's the way the GAA has gone, it's so demanding on players," he said at the yesterday's Fitzgibbon and Sigerson Cup draws.

"There's a lot of time and effort and you're only cutting yourself in half if you're doing both.

"Next year anyway I'm focused on football. Hopefully I'll be a member of the senior football team and we'll go from there. I'll only think about next year for now."

The Whitehall Colmcille youngster, who is a student at St. Pat's, Drumcondra, admitted that he turned down advances from Anthony Daly during his time as Dublin hurling manager.

"He asked me in at the start, yeah, he did ask me. But I told him that my ambition for that year was just to play football. He was happy enough.
"Each year, I just regroup my thoughts and see where I'm going to go from there."

Costello also welcomed the news that Jason Sherlock has joined the Dublin football management set-up.

"I believe he's going to be involved, it's brilliant," he continued.

"I'm looking forward to working with him. Hopefully he'll show us a few tricks. He was a hero, absolutely, who didn't love Jayo in Dublin?"
