Keeping Dubs in Croker no surprise to Longford

Longford chairman Brendan Gilmore isn't surprised that Dublin will continue to play all of their Leinster SFC games at Croke Park.

The midlanders will travel to GAA headquarters to face the Dubs in next year's Leinster SFC quarter-final on Sunday, May 31 if they can overcome Offaly in their first round clash at O'Connor Park on Saturday, May 16.

Longford were the last team to host Dublin in the Leinster SFC eight years ago, but since then Glennon Brothers Pearse Park's capacity has been dramatically reduced, meaning a home game against Jim Gavin's charges next year was never on the cards.

"This decision was expected," Gilmore told the Irish Examiner.

"Pearse Park wouldn't be able to cater crowd-wise. In 2006 we had 17,500 for the visit of Dublin, now we are down under 10,000. Either team could be in for a hiding to nothing going up to Croke Park to play Dublin.

"That is what faces the teams. That is the prize on offer."
