Jayo asks: why can't Dublin SFC final be played earlier?

Jason Sherlock believes tonight's Dublin SFC final between holders St. Vincent's and St. Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh should be played in the afternoon instead.

The decider gets underway at 7.45pm in Parnell Park, and Jayo feels the late throw-in deprives many children of the opportunity to attend.

"I do have a problem with the timing of tonight's game," he writes in the Irish Daily Star.

"The county final has been played on Monday nights for the last few years, and I don't agree with it.

"As a kid, my memory of county finals is the colour and buzz and loads of boys and girls of my own age with flags. Having such a late throw-in isn't very child friendly.

"It's a Bank Holiday so why not play in the afternoon? It would also give players the chance to enjoy the night out. As things stand, they won't get out of Parnell Park until around 10.30pm and some of them have work tomorrow."

As for his game itself, Jayo reckons his former St. Oliver Plunkett's team-mates can win a first title if they can contain Mossy Quinn and Diarmuid Connolly.

"If Plunkett's keep Quinn and Connolly relatively quiet, it will give them a big lift," he continues.

"Plunkett's have earned their dues. I feel they have what it takes to make history."
