Jason Sherlock reckons his former Dublin team-mate Diarmuid Connolly is an exceptional talent.

Widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound footballer in the country at present, the 27-year-old will receive a long overdue first All Star tonight and will also battle it out with James O'Donoghue (Kerry) and Neil McGee (Donegal) for the prestigious Footballer of the Year award.

"Ask any player in the Dublin squad and they'll tell you Connolly is the most skilful," Jayo is quoted in the Irish Daily Star.

"He was the most talented player I ever played with. That was clear from the very start when he first came into the squad under 'Pillar' Caffrey.

"But when I was in the team with him, he was inexperienced and didn't scale the heights that he's hit since. Sometimes it's just too easy for Connolly and he drops his guard and performance levels because of that.

"Connolly needs to be challenged to motivate himself fully."
