Inspired by the brilliant Diarmuid Connolly, holders St Vincent's got the better of Ballyboden St Enda's in an entertaining Dublin SFC semi-final at Parnell Park this evening.

Connolly put on an exhibition of point-taking in the first-half as the holders built up an 0-8 to 0-6 interval lead.

The gifted half-forward registered five points during the opening 30 minutes and then gave his side the perfect start to the second-half when finishing brilliantly to the Ballyboden net from 20m out.

To their credit, Ballyboden stuck gamely to their task and managed to cut the deficit to two points - 1-9 to 0-10 - by the three quarter hour mark.

The Marino outfit hit back with three unanswered points from Mossy Quinn, Connolly and Shane Carthy but a Conal Keaney goal on 52 minutes set up an exciting finish.

Ruairi Trainor calmed Vin's nerves with a point and the reigning All-Ireland club champions pulled away in the closing stages.

They now look forward to a final date with St Oliver Plunkett's on Monday, October 27th at 7.45pm in Parnell Park.
