Former Dublin All-Star full-back Paddy Christie has been handed the reins of the Dublin minor football team for 2015.

The hugely respected Ballymun Kickhams clubman replaces Cyril Kevlihan while ex-Dublin hurler Johnny McGuirk will take charge of the capital's U-18 hurlers.

The pair have been appointed for one year terms but county chairman Andy Kettle told the Herald: "If everything works out, I see no reason why it shouldn't become a two-year term for the two of them."

Kettle gave Christie a glowing reference: "He has done wonders for his club.

"He has an affinity with young players, he knows the scene and he will definitely get the best out of the group that he is taking over."

McGuirk scored the winning point in a Walsh Cup final against Kilkenny 11 years ago and the chairman was also fulsome in his praise of the Craobh Chiarain clubman.

"He has a great underlying passion for Dublin hurling. Hopefully he can get the guys up that extra notch."
