Legendary GAA commentator Micheal Ó Muircheartaigh has given his backing to a unique Ladies Gaelic Football team from UCD International that will compete in next month's FEXCO Asian Gaelic Games in Kuala Lumpur.

The 12-strong team is made up of non-Irish students at UCD and are from nine different countries - Malaysia, China, Canada, Vietnam, Nigeria, Poland, USA, Denmark and Sweden.

'I haven't seen the likes of it before', says Ó Muircheartaigh, who is Honorary President of Asian GAA. 'I've seen the development of sport in the Universities encompassing players from all counties in Ireland, but this is the first time a team from UCD is being sent on an international mission'.

Nine-time All Star Cora Staunton took a coaching session with the group as part of a 3-day Boot Camp at Belfield and will travel to KL along with other celebrity guests Bernard Brogan and Colm Gooch Cooper.

The UCD initiative, which was inspired by Paraic McGrath, Vice-Chairperson of the Asian County Board, and Brian Mullins, Director of Sport at University College Dublin, is being supported by ESB International, Bank of Ireland, and O'Neills Sport.

UCD team for KL: Agata Blasiak (Poland), Bettina Ribagyiza (Uganda), Alexandria Remus (USA), Caitlin Bendoraitis (USA), Doyinsola Ishola (Nigeria), Junnan Lu (China), Madeleine Sertic (Canada), Hafizah Abdul Ghani (Malaysia), Aisling Kerr (USA), Claire O'Neill (USA), Doris Obialor (Nigeria) and Thanh Nguyen (Vietnam).
