Cunningham the favourite for Dub vacancy

Former Cork custodian Ger Cunningham has emerged as the early front-runner to succeed Anthony Daly as Dublin senior hurling manager.

Cunningham - who was a member of Jimmy Barry-Murphy's backroom team last year - is being strongly linked to the vacancy having recently retired from his job with Bord Gais.

Liam Sheedy and Nicky English are other names in the mix.

Daly, meanwhile, has been installed as the favourite for the Galway position even though he has not been officially nominated by clubs.

Outgoing manager Anthony Cunningham faces challenges from Brendan Lynskey, U-21 manager Johnny Kelly and Mattie Kenny.

Having recently cut his ties with the sky blues after six years, 'Dalo' is seen by many as a live contender.
