Ciaran Kilkenny won't 'cut corners' in his rehabilitation from his cruciate ligament injury but has hopes of seeing some club action come the autumn.

"That would be the goal (to get back with the club)," he revealed to the Irish Independent.

"It's more of an individual goal, but I just want to go through all the phases of recovery I have to and do it 100pc right. I want to get the leg strong and not cut corners."

The Castleknock star will be in Portlaoise on Saturday to support his U-21 team-mates as they take on Cavan in the All-Ireland semi-final.

He admits it will be hard to be a spectator as they bid to make up for the disappointment of losing the All-Ireland MFC final to Tipperary three years ago.

"I'd love to be there to rectify that All-Ireland loss.

"It kicks in a lot more when I miss games with some of the players I've grown up with since I was 13 - like the Dublin team who are playing Cavan in the U-21s in Saturday.

"That will be the toughest, missing out on that game."
