Former Dublin star Jason Sherlock is excited about Sky raising 'the standard of analysis' in gaelic games.

Sky Sports are renowned for leaving no stone unturned in their sports presentation and Jayo believes the TV deal with the GAA will force others out of their comfort zone when it comes to analysing gaelic football and hurling.

"The Sky Sports deal was always going to divide opinion - but I believe this to be a hugely positive development," Sherlock outlines in the Irish Daily Star.

"First and foremost, we have a great product and it is important to get as much exposure as possible to audiences who might never before have seen a game of football or hurling.

"There are also benefits from a commercial point of view for the GAA, which will be felt right through the organisation.

"Sky's marketing of their sports is second to none - just look at the impact they have had on the Heineken Cup. If repeated with the GAA, this will assist in aspiring the next generation to represent their counties.

"Also, I feel some of the analysis of the games here is superseded by individual personalities.

"The majority of supporters want insightful analysis - they want to learn the tactical differences that lead to wins and defeats for their counties.

"And Sky Sports is second-to-none when it comes to analysis, particularly with Premier League soccer. This deal should raise the standard of analysis across the board."
