Erin Go Bragh Reach a New Milestone

March 31, 2014
Erin Go Bragh GAA Club will celebrate a millstone in their history this week when they field their first ladies senior football team since 2009 and first ladies senior camogie team in their history. One unique aspect of both teams is that they will be made up of the same squad of players .The girls started their journey together in 2008 as an Under 12 team, 90 % still play today. "Apart from being their coach its fantastic to see the friendship that the girls have formed after all those years which is important to them" said Kevin "in some ways this gives the squad a great bond and this shows in the way that we play". Since 2008 they have competed in both camogie and football leagues. In their maiden year they secured a place not only in the final of their camogie championship but the football shield too.

Kevin Kenny and John Whelan have been in charge since 2009 with back room staff added in subsequent years. Having the same squad members and management team for both disciplines is not an easy task, but with every new challenge the team has generated a success story for the ladies section and the club as a whole. In 2009 they won their football championship shield, in 2010 they became the first team in the club to win a championship at juvenile level and were runners up in their division in the camogie league. In 2011 they won their league and championship in football. Last year they won their minor football shield and were runners up in their minor camogie shield.

Now they make the step up to adult level, another new challenge and it's probably their biggest to date. One focus will be to bring in new players to both teams and open up the age profile of players they can recruit for both disciplines. Plenty of challenges, new challenges, but ones they're sure meet head on.
