DIT will face Offaly in the Walsh Cup Shield final after Niall Quinn's goal in first half injury-time helped them to victory over Carlow at Dr Cullen Park yesterday.

The home side, who were without their Mount Leinster Rangers contingent who are preparing for the All-Ireland club IHC final, were first off the mark thanks to Craig Doyle, but Padraig Phelan levelled for DIT. Marty Kavanagh restored Carlow's lead, but DIT were never headed after points from Dean Curran and Paul Morris gave them the lead.

There was an exciting finish to the first half when Carlow's Martin Clowry was denied a goal by DIT goalkeeper Finn McGarry, and the students immediately swept upfield to score the only goal through Quinn to take a 1-8 to 0-7 lead into the break.

A fine John Corcoran point left just two points, 1-11 to 0-12, between the sides midway through the second half, but Carlow couldn't get any closer and DIT made sure of the win with late points from Brian Campion and Paul Morris.
