Jack McCaffrey is confident that Jim Gavin will remain on as Dublin senior football manager.
There have been suggestions that Gavin might quit while at the top, having led the Dubs to an unprecedented five-in-a-row of All-Irelands (and six Sam Maguire Cups in seven seasons at the helm), but McCaffrey expects him to stay on as the champions defend their title in 2020:
“It’s completely up to him obviously. If he wants to do it, it’s there for him. He’s given us no indication that he won’t. But, you know, we’ll have to see,” the 2015 Footballer of the Year told 2FM’s Game On.
“He’s fantastic, and I think the group we have now, the biggest testament to him is that he nearly takes a step back a lot of the time and lets us drive things on.
“It’s the culture. You can’t create it over a season or two. It’s probably taken him every day of the seven years he’s been over us to get us where we are. He’ll definitely continue to push us on.
“There’s no feeling that we need a fresh face or anything like that. He just finds these extra little inches, year on year and week on week. He’s an incredibly impressive man and has been very important in my career.”
