Kildare cantered to a provincial semi-final meeting with Dublin when inflicting this heavy 4-18 to 0-8 defeat on Carlow in the Dr Cullen Park sunshine.

Billy Murphy's men struggled to compete in the second half in particular as last-quarter goals from Paddy Woodgate, Niall Murphy, Aaron Masterson and Shane O'Sullivan ruthlessly put them to the sword.

A solid first-half showing from the Lilywhites saw them carry a 0-8 to 0-3 lead into the interval. The visitors slotted the first four points of the night through Sam Doran (2), Jimmy Hyland and Darragh Ryan and the Barrowsiders finally got up and running on ten minutes.

Padraig Nash and Hyland supplied the winners' next two scores and a Masterson brace closed their first-half account as they started the second half five to the good.

Kildare registered three of the first five points after the resumption, all from Hyland frees, and all but sealed their passage to the last four when Woodgate found the Carlow net at the three-quarters stage, with Murphy quickly adding a second three-pointer to leave twelve between the teams, 2-11 to 0-5.

Frees from Woodgate and DJ Earley kept the winners' side of the scoreboard ticking over before Masterson duly delivered the third three-pointer with four minutes left to play.

O'Sullivan bagged the fourth major after Nash floated over a brace as Davy Burke's charges coasted into the last four, where they will be away to Dublin next Saturday.
