James McCarthy hopes to return to action this weekend after suffering a hamstring injury during Dublin's Allianz Football League final win over Galway a fortnight ago.

The All Star midfielder was forced off with the injury, but is confident of being fit for Ballymun Kickhams' Dublin SFC opener against northside rivals St. Brigid's tomorrow.

"I got a light enough injury against Galway, so hopefully it's okay to play for the club this Saturday," he told the Irish Daily Star.

"It was a light strain so not too bad. I've been great all year and it just came out of the blue. Unfortunately, it was bad timing but actually not the worst timing in another way I suppose."

Dublin will open their Leinster SFC defence outside Croke Park once again this year against either Offaly or Wicklow and McCarthy is looking forward to the road trip.

"It's great for us, really enjoyable. Portlaoise last year and Nowlan Park the year before, it's great to play in these different grounds and get out of Croke Park sometimes," he continued.

"I think they're talking about Tullamore or Portlaoise this year so hopefully we'll get down to enjoy. That's the great thing about the league, you're going to places like Castlebar, Killarney and all these great places to play.

"They're tough places to go and really enjoyable games. Really looking forward, we'll enjoy them games. Hopefully we'll have a few nice away trips this year."
