Div 2A is very winnable with Carlow, Kerry, Wicklow, Westmeath and Derry and to be honest it's about time we win that Ring competition, we should have won it a long time ago. With the right attitude and support we could have some silverware this year for the first time in a long long time.

We should over come derry and wicklow handiliy . westmeath and kerry are also beatable, rumor has it that a kilkenny player working in kerry has transferred and now plays for the kingdom. carlow are the team to beat there in my view, the barrowsiders are a half decent outfit.

We're due it that's for sure! Carlow and Kerry are strongest opponents there. Derry also capable if it falls right on the day for them, but I'm optimistic we can come very close

Should compete well this year provided the lads get a chance to recharge the batteries ahead of the championship. Fatigue hit them badly last year when they had to be out training/playing 7 days a week.

Should have a good campagne (s). All league games will be competitive. Any news on new players or injuries.

the magicman u seem to have no clue. incase you forgot down absolutely trashed derry in the ulster semi-final by about 20 points. were very unlucky against kerry, i was at both games unlike most of the county who would barely travel over a 3 mile radius to support the hurlers. its attitudes like yours that hinder down hurling and if u think that this division 2A is some sort of top standard league that cant be one you havn't a baldy. Every team in that league are more than beatable and that christy rig cup should have been won a long time ago!

anyone in that league can beat eachother , there will be no clear favourites. Down have the top talent in dule & woods , but keeping them boys injury free will be the sticking point , down have a lack of depth , but on their day , with all the players on form , they can trounce anyone in this league and as has been shown , beat antrim (who are the benchmark for ulster)

UP AND WIN, in case you forget Derry completely out played us in Ballycran, Kerry completely outplayed us in Newry and if it wasn't for the sending off would and should have beat us very comfortably.
And believe me im all for Down winning but 'My attitude' is more realistic. With retirements and some of our best players in a differnt country winning christy ring will be extremely difficult!
up to the young players now i suppose

yes NEARLY with a good panel of players....what have we now?half the team are from south down(their experience consists of playing donegal and louth-two great hurling counties) and young lads from the ards. Magic in oz dule injured, clarkes retired coogie retired. Im just telling itt how it is instead of living in ur dream land.

If Down want to win matches and have any prospects of doing well in div.2, then the team has to be picked from the whole of Down.
Times have changed, when it was the stupid belief that Down could win their matches by playing on the wee pitches in the Ards.
Them days are over.
The matches will be played on big pitches, so get the big physical players on the team. That alone should halve the number from the Ards.
There is talent outside the Ards.

always............... chill man I'm sensing bad carma from your posts. breath in and out slowly. Now. titter a wit man! are you saying that lads that play division 1 and 2 in Down are good enough to play inter county div2. They couldn't even beat a Donegal team, (that bastion of hurling excellence.) You should tell them lads whom r trying out for the county seniors that there is no "I" in team.
"Always" now relax, breath slowly and share the love before you answer this post!!!!!

Always I dont disagree with the sentiments re physicality but you got to put the ball over and under the bar plus defend. I believe everyone within

I believe everyone within Down hurling is getting a chance this year and thats good and about time. I do agree its a big step from Down division 1 to National league 2 but what choice does the manager have?
I hear they are very happy re the Red High but its sad some players have decided to retire; after last years episode against Armagh I would have thought some would have had their pride dented and wanted to make amends but its a personal choice.
If Graham Clarke has retired as it says on this site hes one player who has excelled for the County and club and will be sad to see a true legend leave the stage.
As for the pitch size I have to say im shocked as both galget and portaferry (top pitch) pitches are huge so Im lost with that comment

if anything the big wide open pitches in Portaferry and Ballygalget (both the maximum sizes allowed) should suit the smaller, quicker players rather than bigger slower players.

The Down team of the Sean McGuinness was a physically big team barring the halfback line who could hurl with anyone in Ireland and were unlucky not to beat Tipp in Ballycran in their day. Babbs had to spring Nicky English off the bench to save them.

The current crop, size, skill, whatever don't compare even to the recent team that won NHL div2 in Limerick. Even the weaker hurlers on that team would have their pick of the jerseys now.

We're on the downward spiral and will be doing well to get in the top three of Div2 and to the Christy Ring final.

Best of luck to Graham, great keeper and if the hurlers in Down were half as dedicated as him we'd be improving.

Gotta go sort out a uni team. Will report back later.
