Pete McGrath has confirmed that he will not be the next Westmeath senior football manager.

The Lake County are on the look-out for a new boss after Tom Cribbin stepped down last month, having been at the helm for three years. Down legend McGrath, who vacated the Fermangh post in July, confirms that he had contact from the midlanders but says an appointment would not be logistically feasible:

"There have been tentative approaches made from Westmeath, but I don't think it is a runner given the sheer distances involved. You are talking about Rostrevor to Mullingar, it is nearly 90 miles," the Rostrevor clubman told The Belfast Telegraph.

"So I don't think it will materialise. The contact was made, like all County Boards they are saying people are available or interested, and that's fair enough."
