As part of Volunteer Now 'Turn Up & Try' volunteering opportunities, Kingdom Men's Shed got involved with volunteering with Armagh Men Shed. Later a Celebration Event, hosted by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Lord Mayor Garath Keating was held in the Palace Demesne to thank all the participants. (PHOTO)

 

St Louis Ladies Footballers trained at Dunavil on Thursday in preparation for their All Ireland Semi-final.

 

The Camogie coaches had a meeting facilitated by their Coaching Officer Bonnie as they bid to put a system in place to ensure continued quality coaching of our players. To this end two coaches will complete Level One Coach Award over the next five weeks, further Coach Education will be arranged over the coming months.

 

The Football committee met on Wednesday and the start dates for the various teams were revealed as follows:

P3/P4 Blitz Saturday 8th April

P5/P6 Blitz Saturday 25th March

U12 League Sunday 26th March at home v Mayobridge

U14 League Monday 27th March at home v Longstone

U16 League Thursday 30th March at home v Longstone

U18 League Tuesday 4th April at home v Saval

Reserve League Sunday 9th April in Bryansford

Senior League Friday 7th April in Burren

 

On Wednesday after the Healthier Living cookery/sports project the young people participated in a Youth Survey being conducted on behalf of Newry, Mourne and Down Council.

 

The Knights Basketball team have reached the semi-final of the Basketball NI Senior Cup after victory over Tyrone Towers; last season the Knights lost in the Final. In the Basketball league, Knights lost 68 to 86 to Phoenix at Dunavil on Saturday

 

The details for the annual An Riocht football tournaments were released at the weekend and already there are replies from clubs in seven counties including St Colmcilles and Ratoath Meath, Clann Eireann Lurgan, Bellaghy Wolfetones, Celbridge Kildare, Kickhams Creggan and Mullahoran Cavan.

The Paul Farrell Cup & Shield U14 Football 7-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 29th April; O'Donovan Rossa Magherafelt (Derry) Cup holders, Glenullin (Derry) Shield holders.

The Brian O'Hare Cup & Shield U12 Football 9-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 6th May; Coralstown-Kinegad (Westmeath) Cup holders, Shane O'Neills (Armagh) Shield holders.

The Jim Mulholland Cup & Shield P5/P6 Football 11-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 20th May; Bellaghy Wolfe Tones (Derry) Cup holders, Loughmacrory St Teresa's (Tyrone) Shield holders.

The Adrian McAlinden Cup & Shield P3/P4 Football 11-a-side will take place at An Riocht (Down) on Saturday 3rd June; O'Donovan Rossa Magherafelt (Derry) Cup holders, Skyrne (Meath) Shield holders and Burren (Down) Plate holders.

Each day the first games throw in at 10.30am, the knock out stages begin at 1.30pm with the Finals from 3pm; there will be up to 9 pitches in use. These tournaments are sanctioned by Croke Park. The emphasis each day will be on playing against new teams, making new friends and enjoying the occasion, teas and hot food etc will be on sale all day. There's no Kid's Movie on Friday as the Youth Club is on a trip to Shamrocks YC.

 

Dianna, Fiona and Michael took part in the Scor Sinsir Quiz in Glenn, well done.

 

An Riocht won the Senior Football challenge v Rostrevor at Dunavil on Sunday.

Well done to the Ticket Committee who have organised the selling of 300 Down GAA Draw tickets and thanks to the patrons who purchased them.
