Condolences to The Hughes Family, Kilkeel Road on the sudden and unexpected death of Tony Hughes. To his children Ruairi, Cliodhna and Caoimhe, his mother Philomena, brothers Adrian and Eugene, his sisters Breedge, Deirdre and Noleen and a wide family circle we extend our deepest sympathy.

Condolences to the Arthurs Family Warrenpoint on the sudden and unexpected death of Ciarán Arthurs son of Leo and Eileen, brother of James, Mary Kate and Michael. To them and a wide family circle we extend our sincerest sympathy.

Congratulations to Darren, Barry, Aidan, Cathal and the entire Down team and management on their one point win against Derry in Newry on Sunday afternoon, giving them two wins from two. Best Wishes to them for their final group game in Armagh on Wednesday night

Congratulations to Mayobridge Ballad Group and Glasdrumman Solo Singer Niamh McDowell on winning their respective Ulster Scór na nÓg titles at the weekend and we send our best wishes to them for the All-Ireland Finals in the Waterfront Hall next month.

MEMBERSHIP AND REGISTRATION

Membership is now due for the new season - Players should register before commencing training - if injured whilst unregistered you are not covered by insurance! If you purchase a Down Clubs Draw ticket your membership is covered in cost of the ticket!

DOWN CLUBS DRAW

Tickets are now available for 2017 - Clonduff had great year last year - earned over £26,000 and had 7x£1,000 winners and 1x£200 winner! This is the bedrock of Clonduff's annual fundraising. Tickets cost £120 - when the club sells 24 tickets £96 of each ticket sold comes back to the club!

ROSS TAKES THE HELM IN NEW-LOOK CLUB DOWN

Congratulations to Ross Carr who has been appointed Chairman of Club Down for the re-launch of the scheme - supporters, club members and players are invited to the re-launch in Canal Court on Friday 20th January @ 7pm.

JUVENILE HURLING TRAINING
Juvenile Hurling Training will commence on Saturday 14th January in the Youth Club from 5.00pm to 5.45pm for players from P2 up to P7. Hurls and Helmets will be supplied to all new players. There will be a £1 cover charge each week for all players for the use of the building. 
All are welcome to come along and give the ancient game a lash.

U8 HURLERS IN DKIT
On Sunday 15th January our youngest hurlers had their first outing of the year for the indoor blitz in DKIT. 
Players were Thomas Kenny, Brendan Quinn, Conrad Moan, James Matthews, Austin Matthews, Senan Quinn and Lorcan Matthews. They played Carrickmacross, Keady, Crobha Rua, Ballyvarley and Middletown.

BUSY DAY FOR Rían Branagan

Congratulations and Well Done to our dual player Rían Branagan who played hurling for his university UUJ in beating QUB by 6 points on Saturday afternoon and then appeared as a sub on the Down team v Derry in the McGurk Cup on Saturday night in their big win.

Dates for adult competitions are as follows:

First rounds South Down - Friday 3rd February and Sunday 5th February
South Down Final - Sunday 19th February
County Final - Sunday 26th February
(Venues and times will be notified later in January)
Ulster Semi Finals have been set for 11th and 12th March
Ulster Finals - Sunday 8th April
The All Ireland Finals will be in The Waterfront, Belfast on 5th May.
There's still plenty of time to get your acts together before the first weekend in February!
The Table Quiz will take place at a separate venue on a separate date!

CLONDUFF GAA YOUTH CLUB SCHEDULE

The following schedule of usage was agreed at the most recent mentors meeting.

Monday 6.30 - U14 LGFA

Tuesday 6.45 - U12 Boys 7.45 U14 Boys

Wednesday 6.30 - U12 LGFA 7.30 U16/Minor LGFA

Thursday 7.00 - U16 Boys 8.00 Minor Football

Friday 6.30 - 8.00 U6/U8

Saturday 5.00 - 6.00 U8/U10 Hurling

Any other youth group wishing to use Youth Club should contact Niall asap on 07814353436

All the above sessions are for a ½ hour - there is a short 'time buffer' between each session and should be left ready for the incoming group in good time.

Keys for the Youth Club are with Niall and should be returned as soon as the final session of the evening is finished.

National Level 2 GAA Football Coaching Course

Down GAA will be hosting a National Level 2 GAA Coaching Course for Football Coaches in the Abbey CBS Newry. The course commences next weekend.

The course will be held on the following dates:
Session 1: Friday 13th Jan, 7pm - 10pm
Session 2: Saturday 14th Jan, 9.15am - 4pm
Session 3: Friday 27th Jan, 7pm - 10pm
Session 4: Saturday 28th Jan, 9.15am - 4pm
Session 5: Saturday 4th Feb, 9.15am

** Coaches must be available to attend all 5 sessions to complete the course**

Coaches wishing to complete this course MUST have completed GAA Foundation and Level 1 coaching awards and GAA Child Protection.
