We started off" Walking on Sunshine " then went to "Walking in the Air" now it's a mixture of being on Cloud 9 and pride in our very own Star of the County Down who is now Ulster Champion. In front of an audience of over 600, Niamh McDowell held the attention of everyone with her moving and soulful narrative of the the life and death of boy soldier John Condon in the ballad of the same name. Up against the best of Ulster , she held everyone in thrall with her mesmerising, polished and confident performance. She received a great ovation from all present. As always in Scór the final say comes down to the adjudicator, So it was with bated breath and prayers offered to every saint available the travelling Glasdrumman and Down supporters awaited the results. Nervous both for Niamh and her fellow County competitors Mayobridge in the ballad Group section hoping for a Down double to go through to the All Ireland Final in Belfast. After Armagh were announced as the Ceili dancing champions, we were all on eggs waiting for the Fear an ti 's next announcement. " Amhranaiocht Aonair Buaiteoir Niamh Nic Dughaill Contae an Duin "
The Glasdrumman and Down supporters, her parents . mentors, aunts , uncles and cousins let out a might roar of celebration as Niamh went to collect her and the Club's first Ulster Scór title. Such was the volume of applause and delight , the proceedings were delayed before the next winners were called. When it came to the ballad Group announcement , similar celebrations broke out as it was clear that the Down double had been achieved "Buaiteoiri Droichead Mhaigh Eo Contae an Duin. It was an incredible night's entertainment in all competitions with the best of Ulster's young talent on show and all the competitors can hold their heads high for an evening of very high quality competition in all sections. It was a very proud moment for our Club to see Niamh receving all the well deserved accolades.
