ALL IRELAND HONOURS FOR CLONDUFF JUVENILE HANDBALLERS!

Massive congratulations to our U14 Handballers - Paudie Clancy, Laurence Brannigan, Patrick Cowan, Jamie McDonald who won the Shield in the All Ireland National Feile in Tipperary on Saturday. The four Clonduff lads and their families had the handball alleys of Tipperary in rapturous applause after  a nail biting final win against a fancied  Kerry select.
Missing out on the top prize by points difference the Clonduff boys were confident going into the shield final. On the way they had great wins over teams from Kilkenny and Cork, heartlands of this skilful game.
Out numbered by a large following of passionate support from the Kingdom, the Clonduff contingent needed a good start to quieten the gallery. No better pairing then than Patrick and Laurence with their inimitable fighting spirit to 'bring it on'. Service changed time and again but the Kerry boys couldn't match the determination and skill which the Goward Road boys displayed winning the first game 21-17.
Four points wasn't a big margin to overcome in the final game and so Clonduff needed to be at their best.
Up stepped Jayme and Paudie.  Both players had been in fine form all day and they carried that confidence into the final game. They both held off not only a rousing crowd of Kerry support but also some dubious refereeing decisions to win 18-16. The Yellas had done it!
In the end the Kerry, Carlow, Cork, and Kilkenny club supporters along with the Clonduff boys' Families applauded the high standard of play, fitting of any All Ireland final. There were great scenes of celebration especially when the Clonduff boys were presented with their All Ireland Feile Medals.
A hard-fought achievement and one to be cherished forever!
Great achievement boys - credit to yourselves, your families, your coaches and your club!

paediatric pads for defibrillator

Many thanks to sponsor, who wishes to remain anonymous, for paediatric pads for defibrillator - hope we never have to use them but we are well prepared with at least one mentor on every management team trained in its use.

DANIEL ANDRE U10½ MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Another very successful tournament bathed in sunshine! 27 teams - the format was changed this year with the Plate competition being reserved for 'B' teams only - there were 8 and this worked out extremely well. All the other teams played in four groups with top two progressing to Cup QF; 3rd placed team in each group went directly to Shield QF there was a playoff among the 4th and 5th placed teams to determine the teams entering the Shield QF.
It was a great festival of football with high levels of skills and it ran very smoothly across the six pitches. In the Final of the Cup St Colmcille's Gaels (Bettystown) defeated Mayobridge Gaels by a single point after extra time. The Shield Final was contested between Burren Gaels and Roche Emmets (Louth) with Burren picking up the honours. The Plate Final was another tight encounter between Bosco Ógs and Burren Ógs with the Newry side clinching the title by two points.
The Presentations were made by members of Daniel's family - sister Lauryn spoke on behalf of the family thanking everyone for coming and helping keeping Daniel's memory alive. Grandmother Mrs Clare Devlin presented the medals to the Plate finalists and the Plate to the joint captains of the Bosco team; Lauryn presented the medals to the Shield finalists and the Shield to the joint captains of the Burren team; Daniel's mother Donna Andre presented the medals to St Colmcille's and Mayobridge and the Cup to the captain of the St Colmcille's Gaels teams.
There were well over 400 children participating in the tournament and of course it couldn't be this successful without a lot of input from a lot of people - the participating teams and their mentors, the administrators Alistair, Lorraine and Anita; our U10 mentors who set up the pitches on Friday evening, Sean Cairns, PJ McGreevy, Youth Officer Niall Rafferty, Shop keepers Noleen and Shane Cairns, Majella Kelly, the parents for the loads of sandwiches and other eatables, the members of Daniel's family for manning the Burger Bar and the kitchen; all those who acted as referees - Cathal Murray, John Brown, Conal Brown, Sarah Bloomfield, Paul McConville, Kieran Kelly, Amy Lorwry, Eamon Grant, Lyndon Brown, Daire Brown; the youngsters who acted as runners to get the scores back to the club house and kept the competition running as close to schedule as possible; those who washed dishes and cleaned up after the event - thank you one and all

FOOTBALL

SFL Castlewellan 2-11 v Clonduff 1-11
This was a very entertaining game in Castlewellan on Friday evening. Clonduff played some excellent football but had some wayward passing and too many wides, hit the crossbar and some refereeing decisions that didn't go their way. In saying all that they truly deserved something from the game. They were two points down at the break but fell further behind - 9 points - early in the second half when the homeside scored two goals, the second of which was questionable to say the least following a definite foul on the keeper. In the dying minutes of injury time Clonduff was awarded a penalty which Arthur struck home. The Yellas were playing their best football at this stage but time just ran out on them. Team and scorers: Paul Gribben, Darren O'Hagan, Ruairí Lively, Paul Lively, Brendan Britton, Rory Lively, Shane McGreevy (0-1), Henry Brown, Aidan Carr (0-1), Barry O'Hagan (0-1), Charlie Carr, Gary McDonald, Arthur McConville (1-3), Finbarr McConville (0-1), Stephen McConville (0-3); Subs used: Patrick O'Hagan, Eamon O'Reilly, Karl O'Hagan (0-1)

SD U12 FL CLONDUFF V MAYOBRIDGE

Clonduff extended their recent unbeaten run to six games with a hard-fought victory over a very determined and gallant Mayobridge side. Mayobridge got off to a very fast start with a couple of good scores coping better with the awful conditions and so at half time were deservedly in the lead. However Clonduff in the second half had a completely different attitude and with star man Dan Rafferty leading the way with several superb scores, Clonduff settled into the game playing some great football. There were further scores from Senan Carr and Callum Donnan both scoring a goal and several points. Further points from Gerard Carvill and Shea Morgan extended Clonduff's lead. As always a great defensive display from keeper Bryan Rice with some fantastic saves, and the other defenders Evan McConville, Fionn Brown, Donnacha Burns, Oisin Logan, Max Dursley and Eoin Devlin. There were also great contributions made by Adam Fegan, Aidan Kelly, Conor Greer, Colm Woods, Eoghan McAlinden and Cormac Kelly. This combined made for another great day for the yellas running out deserved winners.

LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL

U14 LGFA - Clonduff v Bryansford
For a match we thought we would have to concede for lack of numbers due to youngsters being involved in school exams, five younger girls came to the rescue and put on a brilliant show to win 2-6 to 1-2. There was a great spirit among the girls and they got off to a great start with a goal from team captain Kayla Woods and they never looked back. Bryansford quickly equalised but despite their superior numbers they were unable to push on. Instead it was the Clonduff girls who were able to convert their possession into scores - Kayla scored 1-4 and Grace Cunningham scored 1-2.
Well done girls, keep up the good work and now that school exams are over let yourselves have a bit of downtime away from the books and study - go and enjoy your football! You have the makings of a good team.

U14 LGFA - Ballymartin v Clonduff

The girls couldn't repeat the performance on Sunday in Ballymartin. They got off to a great start by the home side quickly made up the deficit and stormed ahead getting through the Clonduff defence on a number of occasions. They tightened up the defence in the second half and completed dominated the game but unfortunately they had left themselves too much ground to make up. Scorers: Orlaith McCusker 3-0 Lauren Kane 1-2 Grace Cunningham 1-1

Clonduff will be keen to keep this form up, as over the next few weeks there are tough matches ahead that may very well decide the outcome of both the Down and the Ulster leagues. Clonduff currently stand joint top in both leagues, with Derrynoose in the Ulster league and Ballycran in the Down league. Both of whom, Clonduff still have to face in the remaining league matches.
