Senior Men

Our senior men travelled to Dromintee on Friday night for the next round of the South Armagh Cup and credit must go to both teams for serving up a high scoring and hugely entertaining affair, with Dromintee eventually winning by seven points, 4 - 13 to 3 - 9.

The Shanes began brightly and got the first two points on the board courtesy of Mark McCabe and Danny Monaghan. Dromintee replied with a point of their own before the Shanes hit three on the bounce with Paul O'Rourke, Sean McLoughlin and Mark McCabe all on target. With the Shanes leading by four Dromintee got themselves right back into the game with a well taken penalty and they levelled things up soon after with their second point of the game. A Danny Monaghan point edged the Shanes ahead again before two points in a row from the home side put them in front for the first time. However their lead was short-lived as two quick fire points from Mark McCabe had the Shanes back in front again but a period of dominance from Dromintee saw them score 1 - 3 to now lead by five. Another Sean McLoughlin free reduced the deficit to four and when great skill from Mark McCabe found Danny Monaghan he coolly slotted the ball home to see the Shanes trail by just one at the break.

Dromintee were on target early in the second-half with their eight point of the contest before a foul on Danny Monaghan saw Paul O'Rourke dispatch the resulting penalty to the net to put his side one in front. Minutes later the Shanes were awarded a second penalty when Mark McCabe was upended and despite missing the spot kick Paul O'Rourke did manage to find the net on the rebound following some good work from Danny Monaghan. Unfortunately for the Camlough side this proved to be their final score of the game as Dromintee added a further 2 - 5 to their total to claim the win.

U16 Girls
Training continues on Tuesday evening from 6.30pm - 7.30pm in the field. With the GCSEs finishing we have a number of U16 back fixtures to fulfil and we need full attendance at training to arrange suitable dates. Can anyone who is unavailable to attend training on Tuesday please notify Keith or Paul asap.

U12s

Our U12 footballers travelled to Ballyholland on Saturday to take part in their annual tournament. The Shanes found themselves in tough group alongside Ballyholland, Bosco and Shamrocks but some good performances saw them qualify for the cup semi-final and a game against Mayobridge. The Down team proved to be tough opposition for the Shanes but the Camlough side dug deep to record an impressive three point win. The host club Ballyholland were the opponents in the final and it proved to be a great game of football and the two sides could not be separated at the end of normal time. The contest went to extra time and unfortunately for the young Shanes it was Ballyholland who eventually claimed the win by a couple of scores. Great credit to all the players who gave their all for the jersey throughout the competition, particularly Jarleth Lennon who was named the Player of the Tournament. The club would like to thank Ballyholland for the invite to a well-run tournament. Training continues every Tuesday and Friday night at the club from 6.00pm - 7.00pm.

U10s

A number of U10s fixtures have been played over the past few weeks with the Shanes playing some very good stuff. Saturday saw them travel to Clonduff for their blitz of the season. The young Shanes players done extremely well to reach the quarter final of the shield competition. The young players are progressing well and are really enjoying their football. Training continues every Tuesday and Friday evening at the club at 6.00pmand all new players are welcome.

U8s

The U8 football season is now well under way and it's been a busy couple of weeks for our players with games against Mullaghbawn and Cullaville before taking part in the Clonduff blitz. Some great performances saw the Shanes youngsters' progress to the semi-final of the shield, where they were narrowly beaten by the eventual winners Bryansford. The next match for the U8s will take place on Tuesday evening away to Carrickcruppen.

Well Done

Well done to the U14 hurlers of Craobh Rua who reached the semi-final of the All-Ireland Feile on Saturday evening only to narrowly lose out by two points to Carnew Emmets, 3 - 6 to 3 - 4. Despite the defeat the young lads can take great pride in their performances over the weekend.
