Aughlisnafin GAC club notes

May 16, 2016

The U16's made it four wins from six with a facile 5-11 to 0-6 win away to Drumaness last Thursday evening. Eoin Lundy, Conor Robb, Jack Matthews, Ruairi Quinn and Rory Walsh getting the goals. Aaron Flanagan in the first half and Shea Croksery in the second half doing well to ensure a clean sheet for the second game in succession. There will now be a break in the league programme for the examination period and the next league game will be away to St Paul's on Sunday 19th June at 12.30 pm. The U16's will play a second challenge game, this time in Annsborough, against Armagh division one side Carrickcruppen on Sunday 12th June at 12.30 pm. Training will continue once a week until then.

*The U14's and the U12's had no league fixtures last week. The U14's were away to Dromara on Monday evening and will also travel to face Teconnaught this Thursday evening at 7.30 pm. The U12's were away to Bright on Tuesday evening and will host Dundrum this Sunday at 11 am in Annsborough.

*The Year 6's enjoyed a great morning of football at the Go Games Blitz in a sun drenched Annsborough last Saturday. The visiting clubs were Castlewellan, Bryansford and RGU Downpatrick and the skill level and scores taken were impressive. The 'Fin were well served by Dualta, Connor, Joseph, David, Harry, Marty óg, Sean, Ryan, Conor, Lucy, Lena, Connee and Rihanna. The next blitz is on Saturday 28th May subject to the availability of players on that bank holiday weekend.

*The Seniors were at home to Ardglass last Friday evening. They were boosted by the return of Thomas Beckett, Niall Lennon and Francis Boden who were unavailable for the defeat the previous week against Bright. The 'Fin matched the intensity of Ardglass for the majority of the game, drawing level on three occasions, before the visitors pulled away in the latter stages of the game when the 'Fin were a player down. The performances are improving and the results will surely follow if the effort is sustained both on the training pitch and in the games.

Next up for the seniors is a tricky fixture away to St Michael's of Magheralin. After this the 'Fin will compete for a place in the final of the 1916 Shield competition which will involved the teams placed in the bottom half of the table, while the top four play off in the Cup competition. The Down Feis 7's are also just around the corner with Sunday 29th May mooted as the date, time and venue as yet to be confirmed. The winners of the 7's are guaranteed entry to the St Judes 7's in September.

*Those in attendance at the club's senior game at home to Ardglass were treated to an in-house exhibition match at half time. Nineteen boys and girls aged 6 - 9 years old enjoyed showing off their skills . Great to see the numbers out and thanks to members of our coaching and games sub-committee for organising, our U16's co-captain Oran Flanagan for officiating and to members of our senior ladies team for helping out. 'One club' ethos at its best.

*The Year 4's are at the RGU Tournament this Saturday. Leaving Annsborough at 9.30 am. Games start at 10.20 am.

*The Ladies had no fixture last weekend and will host St Michael's this Saturday at 7 pm in Annsborough.

*Well done to Ladies players Amanda Maginn, Chloe McAvoy, Leiontia Magennis and Aoife Magennis who were members of the winning ladies tug of war team BMWR YFC at the recent Balmoral Show.

*All U16 and U14 players are invited to attend a team bonding initiative this Sunday in Annsborough Social Club from 3 to 6 pm. Dress wear to be a county GAA team of your choosing. There will be refreshments laid on, they will watch a DVD of a recent club game and take part in a pool and darts competition. There will be jamming session also so if you play a musical instrument bring it along for some craic agus ceol.

*The construction of the Fin Fun Mud Run course is at an advanced stage and bookings are steadily rolling in. Please visit the event facebook page for details to book. Adults £20 and children 6-16 are £5. Sponsorship forms available upon request for anyone wanting to raise funds for their chosen charity. The course is very challenging and if you enjoyed the last run this one you will love this one. A 100 foot long hillside slide one of many obstacles on the course. Make sure you are there for one of the best outdoor pursuits event of the year !!

*Bookings can now be made online for Campa Chormaic An Dúin, the GAA coaching Irish language summer camp, which will take part from 11-15 July at St Malachy's High School. The club have been well represented over the past four years at the camp and it would be great to see that trend continue this summer.
