Aughlisnafin GAC club notes

April 18, 2016

*The U16's and U14's had no fixture last week however both teams enjoyed challenge games away to Carrickcruppen and Bryansford respectively in the past week.

The U16 management gave debuts to two new additions to the panel in Conor Robb & Diarmuid Lavery and both lads impressed on their first starts for the club against the Camlough based Armagh Division 1 side. Thanks to Carrickcruppen for hosting the game and we wish them well for the rest of the season.

*The U12's lost their 100% start to the season after they suffered a reversal at home to league leaders Darragh Cross. It was a closely contested first half with the young Fin team matching the effort of the visitors. Goals from Marc Quinn & Marty óg Flanagan and points from Lena King & Marc Quinn kept them in touch with a physically bigger and stronger Darragh Cross side with many of their players back from last season. Half time Aughlisnafin 2-2 Darragh Cross 3-4.

In the second half the Fin battled gamely with several efforts dropping short and being mopped up by the two big full backs marking Connee Flanagan and Lena King but they did not make it easy for their respective opponents. Callum Lyttle scorched the net with a great left foot strike and Marc Quinn sent over a superb second point of the game. Conor Walsh was unlucky to see his long range free kick cannon off the crossbar and to safety. As the 'Fin side, with just the regulation 11 players, started to tire on a heavy pitch Darragh took full advantage and were able to use their subs to close out a comfortable win for them in the end. Final score Aughlisnafin 3-3 Darragh Cross 6-11. It was a great effort from a young team which will see 9 players still eligible for this grade next season. Aughlisnafin : O Maguire, D Pickering, S Croskery, M Quinn (1-2), N Dornan, L Matthews, C Walsh, C Lyttle (1-0), M og Flanagan (1-0), L King (0-1), C Flanagan.

*The senior team left Holywood last Friday evening still looking for their first win of the new season. St Paul's were good value for their result however this was a marked improvement on the previous game from the 'Fin in terms of effort and performance. The senior team hope to have as close to their full compliment of players as possible for their trip away to Banbridge to face Aghaderg who are also looking for their first win.

*The Ladies first league game of the new season is at home to Carryduff B on Tuesday evening. Manager Gerard McAnulty Jnr will be looking for a decent performance to get their season underway in Annsborough.
