St Johns Notes

September 28, 2015

The Seniors play their final game of the season on Saturday when they are at home to Darragh Cross at 4.00pm in ACFL Division 2.

St Johns Under 16s faced Darragh Cross in Ballykinlar on Saturday morning in the final of the East Down Under 16B Championship. Unfortunately The Darragh side emerged as winners on a 6-11 to 4-5 score line. See separate match report for details. We would like to thank the mums for all their hard work in the morning, setting up and making breakfast for 30 players and coaches. We would also like to thank Glenside Dairy Farms for their support and generous contribution on the day of the match.

Darragh Cross won the East Down Reserve Football League shield final on Friday evening in Newcastle when they beat our Reserves on a 3-10 to 2-7 score line.

Saturday saw the last of the Under 10s Go Games/Blitz which was hosted by Castlewellan. We had 15 young enthusiastic up and coming St Johns stars ready and raring to go which included a few new players to the club, namely Keva and Lile.  Each and every child played to their full ability and you could clearly see that they enjoyed every touch, kick and block. They showed skill and determination throughout all 3 games with some great points, some excellent blocks and wonderful saves from our goalies. All together a smashing little team to watch in action and a great end to our season.  We look forward to our presentation night and next season with a great bunch of kids.

The Under 8s training is now be moving inside into the sports hall and will now be on a Friday evening from 6.30pm to 7.30pm starting on Friday 2 October.

Yoga for the Over 50s starts on Monday 5 October from 7.00pm to 8.00pm. As our bodies age we can become less flexible and joints can become stiff.  This programme of Yoga classes is designed for complete beginners up to Level 1 practitioners and aims to gently stretch away tightness and tension held in the body, as well as reducing stress in the mind and nervous system. Rejuvenating and relaxing, these classes will appeal to those who want to practice Yoga as a tool for balance and wellbeing. Bring a blanket for the deep relaxation at the end of the practice. Some yoga mats will be provided. Places are free of charge due to our link with Age NI but the class size is limited so please text or call Sam on 077 7519 5454 to confirm your place.

The club are on the lookout for someone to take the lead in our club's participation in Scór and Scór na nÓg and also any friends of the club interested in taking part. If you have an interest, get in touch with any committee member.

The upcoming weekly cleaning rota for the clubrooms is Pep Keenan's group for week commencing 4 October.

Deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Denis McCullough.
