Conor Deegan has thrown his hat into the ring to take over from Jim McCorry as Down senior football manager.

The two-time All-Ireland winner, who has managed Kilmacud Crokes, Ballyboden St Enda's, Naomh Mearnog and Skerries during 16 years living in Dublin, has revealed he is interested in speaking with Mourne County officials.

"It's my home county and I want to see Down doing well," Deegan - who is in charge of Aughlisnafin this year - told The Irish News.

"I like to think that I could bring something to help in that regard, but time will tell that tale.

"Is it something that I'd be very interested in? Of course. I'd be very happy to sit down and talk.

"There has been no contact with anybody as far as I know - there certainly has been nothing with me. If they don't phone me, that's fine. If they do, I'll speaking to them."
