McKinless new favourite for Oak Leaf job

Ballinderry manager Martin McKinless

Martin McKinless is the frontrunner to succeed Brian McIver as Derry senior football manager.

The former Ballinderry Shamrocks supremo led his native club to five Derry SFCs and an Ulster club title and was manager of Tyrone club Ardboe this season.

The Irish News reports that McKinless' powerful backroom team would include former Armagh defender Enda McNulty, Errigal Ciaran's Joe Canavan and Dessie Ryan, who served him in an advisory role at Ballinderry.

The emergence of McKinless with such a strong ticket seems to have jettisoned the hopes of former Monaghan and Meath manager Seamus McEnaney, who has been interviewed for the vacant Oak Leaf hotseat but is now being touted as a possible successor to Jim McCorry in Down.
