FOOTBALL
Minor FC Clonduff 1-13 v CPN 2-12
The minor footballers lost at home to the Warrenpoint side in their first Group game on Tuesday evening. They now have to go to Carryduff and win to secure a quarter final place. This was a very good game of football with a lot of great scores from both teams. On the night Clonduff had eight different scorers which is very Positive.
Team and scorers: Conor Keenan, Aaron O'Hagan ( 0-1), Lorcan Branagan (0-1), Michael Mulholland, Darragh O'Hanlon, Noel Grant, Niall O'Hagan, Conor Lowry (0-1), John Boden (0-4), Ross Carr, Ryan McGreevy ( 1-1), Colm Fearon, Charlie Carr (0-2), Conor Woods (0-1), Conor Murray (0-2); Subs used: Pierce Murnin, Lyndon Brown. Other panellists: Jonathon Gribben, Brandon Roe, Ryan Matthews, Jamie O'Hagan
PRFC Clonduff II 2-7 v Mayobridge II 1-11
The opening game of the double header produced some great football from both teams with never more than a couple of points between the sides. Clonduff led 1-5 to 1-4 at half time. Clonduff got an early goal in the second half but Mayobridge came back with a couple of points and the lead see-sawed right to the end. Clonduff did have a number of chances towards the end to not only draw but to actually win but the ball just wouldn't go between the sticks!
Team: Mark Bradley, Declan Gribben, Caolan McAvoy, Thomas Murnin, Niall O'Hagan, James Killen, Noel McPolin, Jamie Curran Connor Lowry, Niall O'Hare, Charlie Carr, Eamon Grant, Conor Murray, Liam McParlan, Noel Grant
RFC Clonduff III 1-12 Mayobridge III 0-11
Clonduff Thirds put in a virtuoso performance in their championship match against Mayobridge on Sunday evening in the second of the double header against the same opposition. A great team performance by all involved with special mention to Brendan Britton who put in a great display of man marking that belied the fact he played a full hurling match earlier today. The Clonduff team has a great mix of youth and experience and showed a great desire to work hard whilst playing a good brand of football!
Team and scorers: Paul Gribben, Mark McNulty, Conor Magennis, Ciarán McGreevy, Brendan Britton, Liam McAleavey, Peter Farnon, Aaron Sherry, Paddy Matthews (0-1), Danny Burns (0-1), John Fegan (0-6), Jayme Gribben, Marty Farnon (0-1), Darragh Sherry (1-1), Ryan McGreevy (0-1); Subs used: Eugene Branagan (0-1), Rory McGreevy, Daniel Mcpolin.
SFL Clonduff 3-10 CPN Warrenpoint 1-9
Clonduff appeared to be coasting in the first half and led 2-5 to 0-4 at the interval. However, the visitors grasped the mettle and took the game to Clonduff and scored 1-3 without reply to make it a one point game. A great run upfield by Aidan Carr and slick lay-off to Arthur who slotted over steadied the ship again and they continued to build on that to claim the two points on offer. Team and scorers: Seamus Parr, Kevin Smith, Mark McPolin, Eamon O'Reilly, Paul Lively, Darren O'Hagan, Karl O'Hagan, Henry Brown, Shane O'Hagan, Finbarr McConville (1-4), Patrick O'Hagan, Barry O'Hagan (0-1), Aidan Carr (0-1), Arthur McConville, (2-3), Conor Óg O'Hagan; Subs used: Gavin McGreevy, Damien Canning, Liam McGreevy, Stephen McConville
lead 0-11 to 1-3. A mini Bryansford revival began when Callum King moved to midfield which reduced the gap to 3 points. The crucial score came on 51 minutes when Arthur Mc Conville found Paul Lively free in front of the Bryansford goals. Paul off-loaded to Eamon O'Reilly whose first shot was saved on the line but was eventually bundled over. A point from play from Henry Brown on the 60 minute mark left the final score at 1-12 to 1-6.
U10s win Plate in Mayobridge Tournament
The Clonduff Gaels (A) team or last year's P6s were in a group with Carryduff, St Sylvester's, Ballyholland and Rostrevor, they won 3 of their group matches losing out narrowly to Rostrevor in the final group stage match. They qualified for the Shield semi-final, just missing out on the cup Semi-final to Carryduff on score difference. St Sylvester's got the better of them by a single point - a great team performance and the boys played right up to the final whistle.
The Clonduff Ogs (B) team or last year's P5s were automatically entered in the Plate tournament as were other clubs who had 2 teams entered. Their group consisted of Saval, Drumgath, Shamrocks, Mayobridge and Burren.( Clonduff had 13 players on each of their teams). Clonduff started off brightly and defeated Shamrocks but were defeated by Drumgath and Mayobridge. They needed to win their last game against Burren to progress from the group. The boys played with a renewed vigor and energy and rattled the net three times in the opening 4minutes and the Yellas never looked back.
In the Semi-final they were again drawn against Drumgath and this time they edged home with 2 points to spare to set up the final against Mayobridge. This time Clonduff weren't going to be turned over like in the group stage. They defended resolutely and took their scores to collect the silverware - the first ever for this group of boys! Brian McGreevy, the goalkeeper was nominated to collect the Silverware on behalf of the team due to his massive contribution throughout the tournament - he must have been getting a bit of extra coaching from his cousins Seamus Parr the Clonduff Senior goalkeeper and Jonny Parr the Rostrevor Senior and Warrenpoint Town Senior goalkeeper - or maybe it just runs in the blood!
Clonduff Ógs Panel: Brian McGreevy, Shea Fegan, Peter Binks, Charlie McConville, Connor McGrath, Leo Sweeney, Daniel McPolin, Eoin Gribben, Oisin Woods, Lee Bradley, Charlie O'Hare, Cathal Fegan, Laughlin Maginn.
HURLING
JHC Newry Shamrocks 2-16 v Clonduff 0-11
Shamrocks were always the favourites for the title but the young Clonduff side took the game to Shamrocks in the early stages of the game in Castlewellan on Sunday afternoon and registered the first three scores. Shamrocks came back strongly and despite having a man sent off went in at half time leading by 5 pts having scored a late 'fluky' goal from a free. Shamrocks stepped up a gear in the second half and when the Yellas had a man sent off they were really up against it but they never gave up and finished the half strongly.
Team: Niall Quinn, Jamie Lowry, Danny Nugent, Patrick Branagan, Andrew Quinn, Shane Murray, Declan Rooney, Brendan Britton, Sean Downey, Rían Branagan, Mark Downey, Jamie Lynch, Lorcan Branagan, Chris Young, John Murphy; Subs used: David Quinn, Rhys Ward, Fionnbharr Murphy
U14 HURLERS IN CHAMPIONSHIP SHIELD SEMI FINAL
The boys played really well but couldn't repeat the performance in the league at the beginning of the season when they overcame the same opposition. They had a lot of possession but the scores just wouldn't come. Well done lads and to your manager Paul McCusker
