Preview: SF qualifier - Wexford v Down

June 27, 2015

"Against Down, we are meeting one of the few Ulster sides that like to play open, attacking football. That will suit our young side so it will be a good game of football."

Wexford manager David Power and his players welcome the Mourne County to the sunny south east for this evening's Round 1B qualifier clash.

It's a tall order for the Ciaran Lyng captained side who suffered a nine point defeat ( 0-15 to 1-21) against Westmeath in the Leinster SFC quarter-final which was played in Mullingar.

"Hopefully, we can get a performance and a result as a win would be huge boost to this young side's confidence," Power added

Down, meanwhile, just came up short in their Ulster SFC encounter against Derry despite playing with 14-men for the majority of the second-half following the harsh red card shown to defender Conall McGovern.

The Celtic Park scoreboard read 0-12 to 0-11 in Derry's favour and, turning his attention to this evening's game, manager Jim McCorry said: "Confidence was low as we were obviously disappointed with the result against Derry.

"We know where we lost that game and that was our scoring ratio. Particularly in the first half we didn't play the way we planned to or certainly how we played our in-house games.

"Confidence levels are back up again and the guys are really looking forward to the game on Saturday."
