Glasdrumman Club Notes

May 18, 2015

The u-10s had a tough away fixture against An Riocht on Monday 11th May made even more difficult when a few of the regular team players were unavailable, this however, did not deter the young Glasdrumman boys and girls who played some brilliant football. Nevertheless, it was the home team who were convincing winners on the night. Despite the result there were signs of great football skills and team spirit which can only be good for the future.  Training continues on a Saturday at the Quarter Road Pitch from 4pm until 5pm.  We have a couple of tournaments coming up in June so it is important there is a good turnout at training in order to prepare for them.

It was a busy weekend for the Eire Og u-12s.  On Saturday they took part in the An Riocht tournament and after a slow start against a strong Burren side the Eire Og team found their form with convincing wins against Walterstown and Killeavy 'A'.  These brilliant team performances saw Eire Og into the Quarter Final of the Cup competition where they were up against Magherafelt who proved much too strong, despite the defeat in this game the young Eire Ogs can take heart from the fact that they gave their all on the day losing only to the eventual winners and runners up of the Brian O'Hare Cup they really did themselves and their clubs proud. Many thanks to An Riocht for the invitation to attend such a well organised and enjoyable tournament.
Sunday morning saw an away league fixture against Annaclone.  The Eire Ogs were missing a few of their regular players and so some of the girls stepped in to cover.  The girls slotted into the side easily and gelled well with the rest of the team to help earn a vital away win. A couple of the younger players also got the chance to show they deserve a place on the side.  It was a great team performance and a brilliant game of football to watch.  Eire Og were deserved winners on the day.
Training continues on Wednesday evening from 6pm until 7.30pm at the Quarter Road Pitch.  Another busy weekend is on the cards with a tournament in St Johns on Saturday morning and an away league game against Atticall on Sunday morning.  Travel arrangements for both will be given at training.

A great night was had by the older youth club kids who went on the trip to the newly refurbished Lisburn Swimming Pool on Friday night! Many thanks to John Joe who once again gave up his time to drive the bus and to the football club for making the bus available to us. The kids were, as always, well behaved and a delight to take away.
Our next adventure is less than 2 weeks away when we have our weekend residential......the countdown is on!!
