St Johns club notes

April 13, 2015

Our Under 10s got their football season off to a great start on a cold Saturday morning in Teconnaught. Their first match was against the hosts and this was a very competitive match but with our midfield players Sam and Adam catching the high ball and feeding the forward line where Shauna, Katie F and Michael were taking some great scores, we won this by 3 points. The second match was against Leitrim, this was a tough encounter with a lot of hard tackling, but with  Conner, Owen and Katie Mac in defence they were winning a lot of ball and working it out well to the midfield. Scores were hard to come by in this match which ended in a draw.

The last match was against Killyleagh. We were very strong in this match with Donal in goals getting the ball out to Adam in midfield who in turn set up Conor in the forward line along with Owen who were taking some great scores on a very windy day. Our backs in this match were great, the three girls let very little get past them and if it did get past Donal was there in goals to mop up. They all enjoyed their day so we hope to see them all at training on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm  to 7.30pm. Take tracksuit bottoms, gum shield and water.

The Under 12s were due to travel to Loughinisland on Sunday but the game has been rescheduled to Wednesday 15 April. They are next in action on Sunday 19 April when they are at home to Carryduff.

The Under 14s played Drumaness on Monday 13 April and on Monday 20 April they host Castlewellan at Pairc Naomh Eoin.

On Thursday 16 April the Under 16s are at home to Dromara in their opening league game.

On Tuesday 14 April the Minors travelled to Drumaness in their opening league fixture and are at home to Dromara 7 days later.

The Ladies start their campaign away to Downpatrick on Saturday 18 April.

The Reserves travel to Carryduff on Sunday 19 April in their opening EDRFL fixture.

The Seniors beat Drumaness 4-16 to 2-19 to retain the Jimmy McGivern Memorial Cup on Easter Monday. Their opening league game against Drumgath has been postponed due to Down's participation in the National Football League Division 2 final. This means their opening fixture will now be on Monday 27 April at home to Saul.
