Aughlisnafin club notes

April 13, 2015

Aughlisnafin Seniors were away to Ardglass on Easter Monday evening. After an excellent opening day victory against Bright the 'Fin saw off a merited challenge from Ardglass to win by five points in the end. This was a much closer affair than the scoreline would suggest. Only for a missed penalty and another effort smacking off the crossbar Ardglass could well have got a share of the spoils in an entertaining game on a difficult pitch. In the first half a strong 'Fin showing saw them post 2-6 with Ardglass restricted to 0-4. The 'Fin had two other decent goal chances which went agonisingly wide.
Ardglass rallied after half time as was anticipated scoring 1-4 in a 15 minute spell with the 'Fin sending over a solitary point. This left a goal between the teams with a quarter of the game remaining. A strong finish from the 'Fin saw them score 0-4, with 0-3 coming from placed balls. The hosts tagged on one more point in the same period. Final score Ardglass 1-9 Aughlisnafin 2-11.

*The Seniors made it three wins from three after a titanic tussle with neighbours Dundrum on Sunday afternoon. The Duns were good value for their three point lead at the interval before the 'Fin turned it around with a brilliant second half performance. The 'Fin scored  2-06 over the second half hour while restricting the visitors to a solitary point which came from a free before a screamer from Dundrum corner forward Glavin in the 6th minute of injury time left it a 5 point game at the final whistle. Aughlisnafin 4-06 Dundrum 1-10. Next up is another tough fixture against last season's Division 2 side Aghaderg in Annsborough this Sunday. Throw in 3 pm.

*The U12's recorded a superb win away to Dromara. With just the regulation eleven players and no subs the young 'Fin team led 5-10 to 1-08 at the interval. The second half was a much closer affair with the 'Fin adding 6-05 to their tally with the hosts tagging on 5-05. Final score Dromara 6-13 Aughlisnafin 11-15. Special mention to our U10's players Conor Walsh (4-01) and Niamh King (2-0) who starred up front. The other scorers were Rhys Clarke (3-02), Owen O'Neill (1-02), Conor Donnelly (1-03), Conall King (0-04) & Ethan Lyttle (0-03). Odhran Maguire made his debut in nets with good handling & well directed kickouts, while Peter O'Hare, Marc Quinn & Donnacha Murphy worked hard in defence throughout.
