Down's Caolan Mooney is relishing the prospect of making his first Croke Park appearance since 2011.

The former AFL star has resumed his intercounty career after walking away from Aussie Rules club Collingwood and has helped the Mourne County book a Division Two final clash with Roscommon on April 26th.

"It's been almost four years since I played there and it's where every player wants to get to," the 22-year-old told The Irish Examiner. "A lot of boys won't get too much sleep the night before, they'll be so excited about playing there.

"Losing to Roscommon at home was one of our worst performances of the campaign. I only last 14 minutes before going off with a hamstring injury and they really showed us up in our own back yard.

"We'll be remembering that and using it as part of our preparations for the final. Our aim at the start of the year was to get back to Division One so we can play against the best teams in the country, but now we're in a final we want to win it.

"I came home because I love gaelic and it's the sport I love playing. Aussie Rules wasn't a sport I enjoyed so I'm glad to be back and to be contesting a final in my first season is great."
