Aughlisnafin club notes

Aughlisnafin Seniors had a third pre-season match away to Kilcoo 3rds last Friday evening. Thanks to Kilcoo for a sporting game under lights. Senior training will continue this Wednesday and Friday evening at 7.30 pm in Annsborough. The opening game of the division 3 league campaign will be this Sunday away to Ardglass at 3 pm. All players to be at the Ardtole venue for 2 pm sharp.


*The draw for this year's Junior Football Championship was made last Thursday evening by the CCC. The competition has reverted back to four groups of three teams with each team playing off in a round robin format. Aughlisnafin have been drawn in Group B along with group favourites Mitchels and also Ballykinlar. The first game will see the 'Fin go head to head with the Newry club with the victors meeting Ballykinlar in Game 2. The third game will see the losing side of Game 1 play Ballykinlar. The top two teams in the four groups progress to the quarter finals.


*The ladies will play their second pre-season game with a challenge match against Saul this Sunday in Annsborough at 11 am.


*The U14's  will take part in the Paddy O'Shea Tournament hosted by Ardglass on Saturday 28th March.


Training for minors and U16s this Wednesday evening at the Fin Hall. All players to be there for 6.15 pm sharp for another outdoor circuits session.


*The East Down leagues will commence week beginning Sunday 12th April. The U12's are the first club team in action when they kick off their Division 3 campaign on the Sunday. On Monday 13th April the U14's are out, followed by the Minors on Tuesday 14th April and the U16's on Thursday 16th April. The U14's are in the intermediate division for the third year in succession while the remaining teams will compete in the third tier.

*A date for your diary is 'A Night at the Races' on Saturday 18th April in Mulhollands Bar. Races can be sponsored for £30 and horses are being sold for £10. All proceeds towards the running of our Underage Teams. Please contact Youth Officer Joan King or any member of the committee should you wish to contribute.


*The Annual Golf Classic will be held at St Patrick's Golf Club in Downpatrick on Sunday 24 May, the weekend before the Irish Open at Royal County Down. To book or for more information email [email protected].


*Comiserations to our minor player Christian Keown and his team-mates at St Louis who missed out on reaching the All Ireland final last Saturday.


*Well done to U16's player Ruairi Quinn and his teammates at St Malachy's High School in their McDevitt Cup final success against St Patrick's & St Brigid's Claudy.


*Club member Martin Burns will again be flanked by his two Irish wolf hounds when he heads the annual St Patricks Day Carnival for the second year in succession. Best of luck to big Marty in the role of St Patrick.


*Lotto numbers are 3, 22, 24, 25. Draw winner Ciaran Kane won £20. Jackpot £1,500.
