U16 Boys
Our U16 boys had another good outing on Sunday morning with a challenge game at home to Warrenpoint. The Shanes were the better team right from the opening whistle and by half-time they had built up a commanding lead. They continued to play great football throughout the second-half and kept their opponents scoreless to run out convincing winners. Training continues this week on Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7.00pm on both nights at the club.
U16 Girls
It was a busy week for our U16 girls with a challenge game away to Burren on Monday night before taking part in a blitz in Blackrock on Saturday.
The game against Burren was played in very blustery conditions but the Shane's girls got away to a great start with two quick goals and continued to play a fast flowing style throughout the game, rarely missing the target when in shooting range. Burren provided strong competition from start to finish and were unfortunate to hit the woodwork four times before Shane's pulled away to win by a comfortable margin. Well done to both sets of players on a committed and entertaining game. Many thanks to Burren for hosting the match.
On Saturday the girls travelled to the Geraldines club in Blackrock on Saturday to take part in a very competitive and worthwhile 4 team blitz with all games twenty minutes each way and a fifteen minute break between them.
The Shanes began in great fashion, recording a ten point win over Colmcilles of Meath, whilst the host side defeated Donaghmoyne. The Shanes came up against Blackrock Geraldines in their second game and after a very slack first half they went into the break nine points in arrears. However the girls showed their true colours and ability in the second half to come storming back and earn a draw. The final match was a very one sided victory over Donaghmoyne and with the Geraldines surprisingly losing to Colmcilles, the Shanes girls topped the table five points.
Well done to all the players on all four teams for their hard work, commitment and skill throughout the blitz and a big thank-you to the Geraldines club for their invite and generous hospitality in providing hot food afterwards for all players, mentors and supporters.
