Down duo to miss Kildare clash

Down's Michael Hughes

Down will be without Michael Hughes and Stephen Dineen for Sunday's Allianz Hurling League Division 2B meeting with Kildare in Newbridge.

Hughes is serving a suspension, while Dineen sustained a fractured foot in last weekend's win over neighbours Armagh. On the plus side, defender Sean Ennis is expected to return.

Speaking to the Irish News, manager Michael Johnston expects Kildare to provide a much sterner for his team.

"Kildare is a step up," he admitted.

"They're Christy Ring Cup champions, they've been arround a long time, they have a bit of momentum from last year - even though they got relegated, they're still coming in off the back of that Christy Ring Cup win.

"They're well established and they have a few outsiders playing for them like David Young and Willie Greene from Tipperary."
