It's still very much early days in 2015 but the gaelic football scene cranked up a gear over the weekend, here's our football team of the week ...

1. Paddy O'Rourke (Meath)

Pulled off two point blank saves to deny Eoghan O'Gara in the first-half and sent over three points (2 45s and a free) at the other end of the field as Meath clawed back a nine point deficit.

2. Josh Hayes (Cavan)

Hayes and his defensive colleagues stood firm in the face of a strong Monaghan comeback to set up a McKenna Cup semi-final against Fermanagh on Wednesday evening.

3. Niall Walsh (Waterford)

Full-back Walsh was a key figure as Waterford held Cork to just one point from play during the course of the 70 minutes at Clashmore.

4. John Carron (Antrim)

The Saffrons finished on the wrong end of the 1-11 to 0-7 scoreline against Tyrone at Clones but no finger of blame can pointed at Carron who put in a solid display along with Tony Scullion.

5. Johnny Heaney (Galway)

Along with 'keeper Thomas Dolan and midfielder Tom Flynn, Heaney was one of the standout performers for the Tribesmen as they booked their FBD League final ticket with an 11-point victory over GMIT.

6. Maurice O'Gorman (Waterford)

Cork struggled to break down a Deise defence which was superbly marshalled by O'Gorman and more of the same will be required against UCC in next weekend's McGrath Cup showpiece.

7. Ciaran Cafferky (Roscommon)

The talented half-back roamed forward to chip in with two points as the Rossies inflicted a five-point defeat on Mayo.

8. Harry Rooney (Meath)

The all-action performance of the Skryne youngster was one of the highlights for Royal supporters despite their two point defeat to arch rivals Dublin.

9. Gearoid McKiernan (Cavan)

A red card brought the Swanlinbar clubman's participation against Monaghan to a premature end with 10 minutes left on the clock but his three points had helped put the Breffni County in the driving seat by that stage.

10. Sean Cavanagh (Tyrone)

The former Footballer of the Year kicked four points (two frees) as the Red Hands made it three wins from three outings with a seven point defeat of Antrim in Clones.

11. Dean Rock (Dublin)

The Ballymun Kickhams star's accuracy from placed balls was a key ingredient in Dublin's winning formula - he was successful with five attempts - while he was also on target with three efforts from play .

12. Ryan Murray (Queens)

Antrim's Murray was a constant thorn in the side of the Derry defence and top-scored for the college outfit with 1-5.

13. Diarmuid Murtagh (Roscommon)

A return of 1-4 from the Under 21 star laid the foundations for the Rossies first victory over Mayo in Castlebar since 1986.

14. Eoghan O'Gara (Dublin)

Meath struggled to cope with O'Gara's physical presence and while spurned two good goal scoring opportunities in the first-half he still finished with 1-2 to his name.

15. Padraig Fogarty (Kildare)

Kildare proved too strong for DIT in the O'Byrne Cup semi-final and Fogarty enjoyed a rewarding afternoon, kicking five points from play.
