Kilcoo GAC club notes

December 15, 2014

Last Tuesday night the club held its Annual General Meeting. A large crowd was in attendance to hear the annual reports from some of the various office bearers. Club secretary Katrina McEvoy got proceedings underway, giving a very detailed report which covered every aspect of club life. A very satisfied crowd applauded her efforts and such was the contented mood of those gathered that she escaped without any questions.
Following this Club Treasurer Seamus McClean produced a detailed record of the club's accounts, which he went through in great detail. Such is his attention to detail he was able to show comparisons' between this and previous years accounts. Again those present congratulated him on his presentation and thanked him for his diligent book keeping.
Club Chairperson terry O'Hanlon gave a detailed address in which he paid tribute to our senior footballers on winning three in a row championship titles. He praised the players and the management team and challenged the players to rise to the challenge of retaining the Frank O'Hare trophy. He welcomed the new senior team management squad.
He praised the work being done in coaching, in football, male and female and also in Camogie. He congratulated the under 14 boys on their championship win and challenged them to work even harder.  With a lot of thanking and encouragement throughout his address he also remembered those within the club that had lost loved ones throughout the year and wished a full and speedy recovery to those that were ill at this time.
This was a very positive AGM and hopefully the launch pad for an exciting 2015 season.
On Sunday past the club held its annual youth presentation evening with special guests Kevin McKernan, Karen McMullan and Stevie Kane. The evening was hosted by the Club's Coaching Officer Conor Laverty. A huge crowd of young players and very proud parents listened to the words of these three as they offered advice to the stars of tomorrow.
Kevin McKernan compared his childhood days to those of the assembled crowd in his own club and spoke of his loyalty to the Burren jersey and the burning ambition within him to keep bettering himself. He spoke of playing for both Down and Ireland and challenged the kids to "dream Big".
Karen spoke f the challenges facing her as a dual player and the need for co-operation between coaches and managers, praising the Kilcoo Club for the approach taken by coaches to vary the training to suit the needs of both camogie and football. She spoke of the need to allow players to enjoy the games and condemned those that would ask a player to pick one code over another. She explained to the young players of the need to continually practice the skills of the games and challeng4ed to do this in order to become the perfect player.
Also addressing those present Club Chairman, Terry O'Hanlon, reiterated the club's unwavering support for the coaches within the club and thanked them for their hard work and effort. He presented St Malachy's Primary School Principle, Maura Mussen with a token of the Club's appreciation for all of the hard work they do for us. He congratulated the children and challenged tom to work even harder next season so that they could represent the club on adult teams.
Anyone that placed an order for club gear should note that it will be given out on Thursday 18th December between 7pm and 8pm. Please note that there will be no other chance for this to happen before Christmas due to other commitments.
Last week's Tote numbers 1, 9, 10 & 23. No jackpot winners. £10 winners, Brigid Patrick and John, Donna Morgan, Coretta Cairns, Maureen McDonnell, Joseph Brown and Aimee McAleavey. Next week's jackpot £3,800.
Good luck to Roger Morgan who is running for the position of County Chairperson at the Down County Convention in the Canal Court on Wednesday evening. Despite information being fed to some papers to the contrary Roger is standing for election. Roger has been a fantastic leader within this club and we wish him well in his bid to become County Chairperson.
