St. Mary's eye in the sky

December 07, 2014

St. Mary's Univeristy in Belfast are taking match analysis to a new level after they used a drone to film the action in last Wednesday night's Ryan Cup final against DCU.

Operated by an IT technician from St. Mary's, the drone hovered overhead as the Belfast students suffered a 1-9 to 2-11 defeat at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh. Whether the bird's eye footage of the final will give St. Mary's an edge when the Sigerson Cup gets underway in February remains to be seen.

In the same game, a hooter replaced the referee's half-time and full-time whistle. The system has been used in ladies football since the late 1990s.
