SFC proposals made

November 14, 2014

Changes to the format of the Down senior football championship are to be discussed at the next county board meeting.

A committee has proposed that an open draw with no seeding be held. Round one would consist of 16 teams, eight winners go into 2A, eight losers go to 2B.

Round 2A will see the four winners through to the quarterfinals, while the four losers head for round 3. In round 2B, the four winners go into round 3 and the losers go to the relegation play-off.

Round 3 sees the four winners into the quarterfinals and the four losers are out of the championship, while the remainder of the campaign is on a straight knockout basis.
