  Encourage the young and they will flourish .   Friday Night in the A.O.H Hall at Glasdrumman  saw this come true as the opening round of Scor na NOg  got under way .   First  to the stage for the home Club  were our Ceili Dancing team of : Cara Sloan ,Carragh Cochrane, Caitlin  Morgan ,Aine Doran, Aoife  McComb and  Riagin O'Hare  ,who danced the Fairy  Reel  and left the stage to a warm ovation from the  packed hall.  The team now go on to dance in the Qualifying Round this Saturday  in Mayobridge at 4-00 pm. This is very young team and gave a good account of themselves on this first outing.  Next was the Solo singing competition and Niamh Mc Dowell gave a very powerful rendition of Phil Coulter's "The Town I love so well "  and in this most competitive of all the sections on the night came runner up and also goes to the Qualifying Round in Mayobridge this Saturday. While we  had no competitor in the Recitation section it was encouraging to  see Cormac Cunningham from our neighbouring Club of Longstone progress to the Qualifiers  with his recital of "Wee  Hughie" . The second half  opened with the Instrumental music competiton and : Peter Doran, Cara Sloan, Niamh Mc Dowell Ciara Rooney and Orla Smith  representing Glasdrumman played the " South Wind " and  "Britches full of Stitches"  and received a positive adjudication of their musicianship and also progress to the Qualifiers in Mayobridge. The Stars of Instrumental Music on the night was the trio of exemplary musicians from Longstine who progress to to the South Down Final and we wish them well .  The Final competition of the night was the Ballad Group  .  Glasdrumman were represented by Niamh McDowell, Tara Grant ,Orla Smith and Ciara  Rooney . The sense of anticipation  filled the hall and very attentive and appreciative audience   heard the Girls sing the  two songs that had  been selected: "The Spanish Lady and the Fields of Athenry . Two very contrasting songs with their  unique challenges . The Group performed with confidence and clarity. The Girls left thje stage with the resounding applause nd congratulations of a job well done  by all in the hall. The level of excitement and appreciation in the hall for all the competitors was evident by the great attention and appreciation shown to each and every performer by the audience on the night .  While the adjudicators  were  tallying the scores, South Down Scor Secretary  Anita  Brannigan too k to the stage to make some concluding remarks.First of all she thanked the members and committee of Glasdrumman A.O.H for the use of the premises and the great hospitality shown to all the guests.  She expressed gratitude to the home Club ofGlasdrumman for hosting  the event ,providing stewards for parking and inside the hall  and for  providing the Fear anTi for the evening  Tony Bannon.  She thanked  the adjudicators and County Cultural Officer Paula Magee,and County Vice Chairman  William James Smith for their assistance on the night and to Peter Magee  for
rhis expert handling of the mikes and P.A.   She said she was delighted to see such a strong showing of talent at this early stage of Scor and praised the competitors, their Clubs, mentors, parents and guardians for all the obvious behind the scenes work and preparation that had been put in by all concerned  and did not envy the adjudicators the job they had to do on the night

Well , as soon as the last result was read out  the cheers hit  the rafters of the hall . A Great night overall for the home club with 3 acts out of 4 going  to the Qualifiers and the Ballad Group straight through to the South Down Final .  A very proud group of parents, grandparents,siblings and relatives,, Club Members and the three Club Mentors Donna Feeney, Joanne Grant  and Tony Bannon   congratulated all concerned for the hard work ., dedication and and enthusiasm shown by all who wore the Clubs Colours on the night .  After a short break it will be onwards and back to the grindstone in preparation for the next  two events.  Our deepest thanks to all came out to support the youth of the Club on this first night and we look forward to seeing you all in Mayobridge on Saturday and in St  Mark'sWarrenpoint on Sunday 23rd

At last we have a winner Cyril Daly in the Glasdrumman Last Man Standing competition. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the club by entering the competition and a special word of thanks to Martin O'Neill for his hard work and perseverance in running the competition since the start of the Division 1 and 2 season in the spring.

Youth club takes place this Friday night with the 1st group 7pm until 8pm, the kids will be making bird feeders, could everyone please bring an empty jam jar as they will be needed for the next youth club session to make Christmas snow globes.  The 2nd group is from 8pm until 9.15.  Martina McGivern from Tip Top Beauty has kindly agreed to come to do a make-up class with the girls.  There will be a Fifa 15 tournament for the boys with a prize for the winner and runner up.

A huge well done to under 12 players Ollie Thompson and Niall McCartan on getting to the final of the Canon Esler Shield tournament with their school.  Despite giving their all on the night they were unfortunate to loss the game by 1 point.
