Portaferry boss expects "war of attrition"

Portaferry celebrate

Portaferry manager Sean Young reckons his side's Ulster club SHC final against Cushendall in Owenbeg won't be pretty.

The Down champions are bidding to win their first provincial title in what will be their ninth final appearance at the expense of a Cushendall side that needed a replay to overcome Slaughtneil in the semi-final.

"At the end of the day, we're playing the Antrim county champions and nine times out of 10 in the last number of years, whoever comes out of Antrim carries the torch into Ulster and then the All-Ireland series," Young noted in the Irish News.

"Cushendall will be looking to take that on and they've quality players all over the pitch - Arron Graffin, Neil McManus, Sean Delargy, Conor Carson - you could go right through the team and there's quality players across the pitch.

"We've no illusions about the task ahead of us. At this time of year, there's not much bounce in the ball and it's going to boil down to a war of attrition.

"It's going to be whoever can out-battle and out-work the other team - it'll be a bit of a dogfight. It'll be who wants it the most."
