Aughlisnafin reached their second U12.5 Championship final in three seasons after seeing off the challenge of Dromara on Sunday morning in Annsborough. With wind advantage Dromara started the game well leading 1-3 to 0-1 after 10 minutes, Shea Croskery sending over for the 'Fin. A tactical switch saw the introduction of Cathal Murphy into the fray and the Fin rallied to score an unanswered 3-1 in five minutes of play. Shea Croskery, Conor Donnelly and Rhys Clarke all finding the net, with Ethan Lyttle stroking over a superb point from distance. Dromara used the wind well and tagged on a further five points before the short whistle. The 'Fin added 2-2 in the same period to lead by eight points at the interval. Croskery with 1-1, Donnelly getting his second goal of the game and Conall King with a superb point. Half time Aughlisnafin 5-4 Dromara 1-8.

 

Dromara put up spirited resistance in the opening period of the second half but with the wind at their backs the 'Fin were relentless in their pursuit of scores outscoring the visitors 7-10 to 1-0. Such was the defensive display by Dylan McKibbin in nets and the back four of Peter O'Hare, Michael Flanagan, Ethan Lyttle & Rory Walsh fleeting Dromara attacks were smothered with great workrate and tenacity. Conor Matthews and Ruari King (0-1) bossed the midfield sector along with Shea Croskery who added another 2-2 to his first half tally . While in attack Morgan Croskery (3-2), Cathal Murphy (1-0), Conor Donnelly (1-0), Conall King (0-2) and Rhys Clarke (0-1) were clinical in front of the target. Lyttle showed great engine to break forward to take two long range points as well. Cathal Murphy also saw his rasping effort, after a great solo, smack off the black spot on the crossbar. Conor Steen, Owen O'Neill, Marc Quinn and Donncha Murphy all contributing from the bench to a very fine win. Final score Aughlisnafin 12-14 Dromara 2-8.

 

Having topped the group the 'Fin will now look forward to a final against U12's league winners Teconnaught this Sunday at 11 am in Ballykinlar.

Well done to St Mary's P.S. Aughlisnafin / St Joseph's P.S. Carnacaville amalgamated team who defeated St Patrick's P.S. Saul in the semi final of the Canon Esler Shield last Friday morning in Annsborough. The Fin U12's players Conall King top scored with 1-5 from half back, Odhran Maguire was assured in nets throughout and Conor Walsh scored a fine point after coming on as a sub. Well done lads.

 

Well done to U14 girls player Alana Doran who was called up to the Down Ladies U13's Development Squad after attending the recent trials in Annsborough.

 

The Adult Awards Presentation Night will be held in O'Hares, Newcastle on Friday 7th November. Tickets are now on sale for £25 per person from Ciaran Rice or Sheenagh Flanagan. Concessionary price of £15 for 16-18 year olds.

 

The Juvenile Awards Presentation Night will be held in Aughlisnafin Community Hall on Friday 28th November.

 

The Annual Club Mass will be held in Aughlisnafin on Thursday 20th November. We need volunteers from both the adult and underage membership to help with the music and readings. Any one able to help please contact the organiser Tara Flanagan as soon as possible.
