Tony McEntee and Gareth O'Neill are reported to have dropped their interest in succeeding James McCartan as Down senior football co-managers.

The Belfast Telegraph is reporting that the Crossmaglen Rangers duo - who led the club to two All-Ireland titles - have surprisingly withdrawn from the race after meeting with Down chiefs to weigh up the situation.

McCartan stepped aside in July after five years at the Mourne County helm and the Armagh pair were rated as favourites to take over.

Kilcoo manager Jim McCorry - who once co-managed Armagh alongside John Morrison - is the new frontrunner to lead Down in 2015.
