Last Thursday evening Kilcoo thirds played Bredagh in Kilcoo. This game effectively wrapped up Division 2 of the Premier Reserve League, with the 2 points earned by the Belfast side enough to place them in an unassailable position. The game was a largely one sided affair for the visitors and despite a very heavy fog they did manage to play some attractive football.
On Saturday the under 14 boy's competed in the East Down Championship final against Castlewellan. With Kilcoo forwards in a determined mood the Magpies took an early lead, but did not kill the game of. A rally by Castlewellan saw them real Kilcoo in and then take the lead in the second half. However the young Magpies regained the driving seat and finished the stronger and the defence of their title was complete. Congratulations to both the players and management team. Castlewellan 4-10 Kilcoo 4-13.
The U12 boys finished off their league season on Sunday morning with a win at home over Carryduff on a score line of 3-9 to 1-6. With some of the players carrying injuries, a number of changes were required and the boys that came in worked very hard with the established lads in achieving the victory. The win secured the East Down Summer League on top of the East Down League they won earlier in the season. Well done boys on doing the double. Congratulations to both the players and management team.
Disappointingly both the seconds and thirds games were both called off on Sunday. The fourths played Drumaness in Kilcoo and this game turned into a real thriller. On this occasion this East Down Reserve League game served up a total of 28 scores. Both teams served up a highly entertaining brand of attacking football and those present were very complimentary of the skill level of both sets of players. Kilcoo 03-12 Drumaness 03-10.
Congratulations to the Down Senior Camogs on their fantastic victory in the All Ireland.
