Aughlisnafin GAC club notes

September 15, 2014

Lotto numbers 9, 12, 13 , 21.

Aughlisnafin GAC hosted their third annual recreational 7's tournament in Annsborough in resplendent sunshine on Saturday afternoon. The teams taking part were defending cup holders An Riocht, defending Shield holders St John's along with Ardglass and RGU making their debuts and the host club making up the five teams. Every game was played in great spirit and many games had only the kick of the ball between the teams.

After four games An Riocht topped the group with St John's in second place, RGU third, Aughlisnafin fourth and Ardglass fifth. St Johns beat An Riocht to win the Cup. Aughlisnafin edged past Ardglass in the play off for the shield final. In the Shield final itself it finished 0-6 apiece at full time so extra time was played before RGU won the with a 'golden' goal with virtually the last kick of the game. It was a great success and the feedback from many was positive. Thanks to everyone who helped out and supported the event with special mention to our two officials Frank McMullan & Danny McKay and registrar Orla Flanagan. Also a word of thanks to Marie Mulholland for the bar-b-que afterwards.

The next tournament in the Autumnal Recreational Football series is at St John's on Saturday 27th September. All players who would like to represent Aughlisnafin should let Gerard Lenaghan know in advance.

The U12's had no league game this week but our U8.5s and U6.5's teams were in action.

The U8.5's attended the Go Games 'super blitz' up in St Johns on Saturday morning where they played four matches. There was an abundance of skill and determination shown by all our players in games against Ballykinlar, Bryansford Ógs, Bryansford Shamrocks and Liatroim. That was the last blitz of the year but we hope to arrange some challenge games in the next few weeks.

The U6's played out a great match against Dundrum also on Saturday morning. David S, Odhran, Jude, Caolan, Ryan, Dillon, Brogan, Louis, David B, Micheal, Rory and Ronan showed great skill and enthusiasm throughout the game with some great scores taken. New players continue to join every other week and numbers are growing but we would like to see more girls take up the sport. Coaching continues every Thursday at 6.30 pm in Annsborough.

The U12's are away to Castlewellan in their final game of the Summer League Division 2 this Wednesday evening which has been brought forward from this Sunday. The u12.5 championship will commence at the end of September.

The Club will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the re-formation of the Senior Mens team when it hosts its Annual Awards Presentation on Friday 7th November in the year the GAA celebrates 130 years of Gaelic Games. The venue is yet to be confirmed but make sure the event is noted on your calendar. Tickets will be £25 and concessionary price of £15 for 16-18 year olds.

The Juvenile Awards will be held on Friday 28th November in Aughlisnafin Hall.

The members draw for an All Ireland ticket took place last Thursday evening in Mulhollands. The first two names out of the hat were the club registrar Ciaran Rice and the chairman Paddy Flanagan. Well done to both.

The raffle draw for the much sought after All Ireland Football Final tickets was won by one of our U6's players Oisin Devlin and his dad Emmett is going to have to drive him I suspect !! Well doen Oisin !!
