Kilcoo Club Notes

September 08, 2014

On Tuesday evening Kilcoo's under14 had home advantage over Rostrevor in the league. This was a very competitive game and whilst the Kilcoo girls were just ahead at the half a late rally from the Rostrevor girls enabled them to see of the Kilcoo girls and secure a victory for the visitors.

On the other pitch our under 14 boy's were playing against Carrickmore, in a friendly game. The Tyrone lads got the first score and looked a formidable outfit, but the Kilcoo Lads using their tenacious tackling and fantastic teamwork were able to break down the visitors strong defence and by half time the game was over as a contest. The second half was no better for the visitors as the Kilcoo lads pushed on an made every raid into the Tyrone defence count.

On Saturday the under 14 lads were in action again in the East Down semi Final over neighbours Liatroim. This was a closely fought game with both teams taking the lead from time to time over the hour, but it was the Kilcoo lads that got over the line and secured a place in the East Down Final.

Unfortunately the minors exited the championship against Burren later on Saturday. Whilst these lads gave it their all they came up well short against a very strong Burren team, but they can take some comfort from the amount they have improved over this last few months.

Earlier on Saturday the under 10 camogs played in a blitz hosted by Clonduff. This was a very run event and the Kilcoo girls played in 5 games. They played fantastically and recorded 3 wins and 2 draws. A massive thanks to the organisers and also a big thanks to the organisers of the under 12 camogie blitz in Liatroim on Saturday morning. Both young teams enjoyed great games and fantastic hospitality.

The U12 boys had a good win away from home against a solid Downpatrick team on Sunday morning. Leading by a score line of 4-6 to 2-2 at half-time, the boys kicked on to win 7-12 to 3-3, with some excellent passages of play. The boys finish their summer league next Sunday at home to Carryduff and need a victory to secure the title.

On Sunday morning the under 14 ladies footballers exited the championship against a very strong Burren side. Despite being up against a stronger side our girls gave it their all until the final whistle.

Congratulations to Justin Clarke and Jack McCourt who played on the South Down under 14 team which won the Kevin O'Hare Memorial Tournament on Sunday morning. Also to their manager Paul Devlin from Kilcoo.

There was no jackpot winner in last week's Tote draw. Numbers 6, 13, 18 and 23. £10 winners Laura Digney, Niall Branagan and Mary McEvoy ( C/O Ray McEvoy ). Next week's jackpot £2,300.

Congratulations to Liatroim Minor hurlers on their tremendous victory in claiming the Minor hurling Championship title on Saturday past. This was a fantastic feat and we applaud you for this.

Good luck to the Down Camogs in the All Ireland Final.

Any club member wishing to have their name included in a draw for All Ireland Football Final tickets should give their names to Caitríona, before next Monday night.
