St Johns Club notes

St Johns Seniors defeated Atticall in the quarter final stage of the Intermediate Football Championship at Pairc Esler last Thursday night by 2 points.  See www.stjohnsgaa.com for a full match report.

The Reserves travelled to face Drumaness on Sunday evening but came away on the wrong end of a 4-13 to 1-10 scoreline.  On Sunday 14 September they host Liatroim at Pairc Naomh Eoin.

The Under 14s travelled to Bright last Monday night but lost on a 4-7 to 3-4 scoreline.

The Under 12s travel to Dundrum on Wednesday 10 September and then host the Dundrum side on Sunday 14 September in the reverse fixture.

The Masters are taking part in the Aughlisnafin Recreational Sevens tournament in Annsborough on Saturday afternoon.  We are hosting our own tournament on Saturday 27 September.  We are hoping to field 2 teams in this tournament so if you are interested in playing contact Eugene O'Boyle or Ciaran Cahill.

The club are seeking to have underage ladies football and camogie teams entered for the 2015 season but need to determine the level of interest in fielding these teams.  If you are interested in playing either underage ladies football or camogie in 2015 can you please let the club secretary Kevin McGlynn know.  Kevin can be contacted on [email protected] or on 078 3596 0804.

St John's and Action Cancer have been working together this year to promote good health, cancer prevention and early cancer detection in our community.  Please join us as we "Walk a Mile for Action Cancer" on Saturday 27 September at 11.00am.

Please come along, either on your own or with friends and family, and walk a mile around the "Highway to Health" within the club grounds. If you wish you can make a donation on the day, or if you don't you can still enjoy the walk. If you want to collect some sponsorship you can collect a sponsorship form at the club or download one from our website, www.stjohnsgaa.com.

Before that we are running a table quiz in the clubrooms on Friday 19 September at 9.00pm.  All proceeds go to Action Cancer.

Calling Action Men - St John's and Action Cancer will be delivering an "Action Man" programme over the next number of weeks. This is a 12 week programme where participants receive individual health checks at the start and are given a motivational lifestyle package from Action Cancer's Health Promotion staff. During the programme participants will receive weekly advice on healthy eating, exercise, maintaining motivation and cancer prevention. At the end of the period the health checks are repeated so that participants can quantify the benefits they have achieved.

There will be a short introduction on Wednesday 10 September in the club at 7.30pm with the first health checks on Saturday 20th September. Calling all budding Jamies and Nigellas - Action Cancer will be running their popular "Cook It" programme at St John's over a six week period starting on Tuesday 30 September and running each Tuesday until 4 November. "Cook It" is a practical information based programme designed to increase knowledge and skills to cook healthy food on a budget. Each week focuses on and prepares dishes based on the eatwell plate. Lotto numbers were 13, 19, 20 and 27.  Aine Magorrian, Ronan Kelly and Mary Walsh were £10 winners.  The jackpot next week is £3,850.
