Senior Football - Intermediate Football Championship
Having defeated Clann na Banna (3-05 to 1-09) and lost to Saul (1-10 to 0-09) in the earlier stages of the group competition, Carryduff seniors exited the Down Intermediate Football Championship on Saturday night when they suffered a 2-12 to 0-12 defeat to Attical in St. Malachy's Park, Castlewellan.
Attical opened the scoring with a point from midfielder Martin Trainor five minutes in.Chris O'Neill (8th) and Joe McFlynn (10th) pointed to settle Carryduff but Attical dominated the next ten minutes with two converted frees from Martin Trainor (12th and 18th) and a point from play from Ryan Sloan. Nicholas Turkington converted for Carryduff (20th) before Sloan restored Attical's two point advantage in the 22nd minute. The dubious dismissal of Michael Ennis (black card) impacted on the game. He was replaced by Ruairí McKay.
In a dour first half both teams traded scores and with only moments remaining were level with five points apiece after McFlynn pointed for Carryduff (23rd) and Turkington converted a second free (26th) Carryduff suffered a devastating blow when in the 29th minute Attical's Jonathan Morgan punished a goalmouth error finishing to the Carryduff net.
Carryduff were still reeling from this first goal when Morgan drifted in behind the full-back line to collect the ball from the kick out and snatch Attical's second goal.
The sides traded points before the break to leave the half-time score Attical 2-06  Carryduff 0-06.
Carryduff never recovered from the two goal blitz just before the break and were thereafter chasing the game. Attical had pressed their advantage with Trainor converting further frees (37th and 41st) as Carryduff's defence coughed up frees from sloppy tackling. In a purple patch Joe McFlynn (free, 42nd), Ronan Lawlor (43rd) and Turkington (free, 45th) added points to reduce the deficit. The teams traded six points apiece in the second half. Chris O'Neill (49th) and Neill McGowan (57th) added two further Carryduff points but points from play from Morgan (48th) and Sloan (53rd) along with two further converted frees (50th and 59th) from the reliable boot of Martin Trainor saw Attical progress from the group stages along with Saul who drew with Clann na Banna but progress on score difference.
The senior team is now facing a 'must win' scenario in their remaining league fixture on Friday night (29th August) to ensure Division II Football next season.
Come out to Páirc Aodha Dhuibh and get behind the lads!

Making History at Belfast City Hall
Carryduff GAC contributed to Belfast City's history when the first Gaelic Football and Hurling tournaments were held in the grounds of Belfast City Hall. On Tuesday 19th August 2014, young Carryduff Gaels competed with other contestants from St Enda's, St Teresa's and Lamh Dearg in both Gaelic Football and Hurling competition.
The event was part of a range of activities running all week on the City Hall's lawns to coincide with the Lord Mayor's theme of opening the City Hall and its grounds to the public.
The young gaels put their skills on show to the Belfast public and passers-by watched with interest as the games progressed.
The club is grateful to the Lord Mayor for affording its juvenile members this fantastic opportunity.

Under 16 Ladies retain A league title
Congratulations to the Under 16 Ladies who, following an away victory over Castlewellan in very difficult conditions, have retained the Under 16 League title. The girls finished their league campaign in style at Páirc Aodha Dhuibh beating neighbours Bredagh 4-09 to 1-12. The Under 16 B team had a superb win over league leaders Loughinisland and now sit joint second in the C league with two games to go.
Congratulations too to the Ladies Under 14 A and Under 14 B squads who have also won their respective leagues.  Readers will recall that the Ladies Under-14 squad lost the National Féile final to a very spirited New York outfit in July. These results look very promising for the future of Ladies Football in Carryduff.

Ten "Duffers" cycle the length of Ireland
