Kilcoo Club Notes

August 25, 2014

Following the success of last month's Kilcoo children's camp, Kilcoo GAC in partnership with CDRCN held a one week summer scheme for the children of the local community, aged from 7-11 years old.  Over 45 young people availed of the five day scheme in which the children improved upon and developed new skills.  The multi-skills sports sessions were delivered by Active Communities Coaches but due to popularity and increased numbers participating the clubs very own Conor and Chara Laverty brought additional expertise, fun and skills to help make the programme successful.  There was positive feedback from all the children and their parents on the successful sports week.  The week long programme of events gave the children an opportunity to take part in a range of sports and psychical activities.  The scheme also offered a thirty minute range of interactive workshops each day such as; Farm Safety, Home Accident Prevention, Smoking Awareness, Nutrition and First Aid.  These discussions and demonstrations were carried out in a fun, educational and informative manner.  Every child was presented with a medal for participating together with a gift/goodie bag at the end of the week.  It was encouraging to witness so many of our young children of the community enjoying and enthusiastically participating in the programme.  There were many happy faces and plenty of fun and banter amongst the coaches and children.  A huge thank you to Paula Nixon from DRCN who made this fun filled week possible together with the Active Community Coaches and the clubs very own Conor & Chara Laverty.  A superb week of sport once again on the grounds of Kilcoo GAC, reflecting the quality coaching, positive community engagement together with the professional management by CDRCN staff, Paula Nixon.

On Tuesday evening the minors travelled to Carryduff for their final game in the round robin series of the championship. Buoyed up from their recent good form the Kilcoo lads certainly played their part in a highly entertaining game, But the Carryduff lads were not going to give up their home advantage lightly and held out to win by a one point margin . Carryduff 00-13 Kilcoo 02-06. This result did not affect Kilcoo's overall standing in the group and they topped it following their previous wins.

On Thursday evening the seniors completed the group stages of the championship with a win over Tullylish. Whilst Kilcoo finished with a comfortable margin in the end, Tullylish did put the Kilcoo lads under intense pressure for long periods but were unable to convert this pressure into scores. Kilcoo 04-15 Tullylish 01-09. With the draw made on Sunday Kilcoo now face Clonduff in local derby in the quarter final.

Congratulations to Lauren Devlin on winning the club's Tote Jackpot of £5,500. Winning numbers 5, 9, 16 and 22. £10 winners: John Boden and Ollie McClean. Next week's jackpot £2000.
